Articles:
Theodore thinks Canucks aren’t rushing to trade Luongo amid labor uncertainty

JOSE SPEAKS: Jose Theodore Talks About Future with #FlaPanthers

Quote:
Anyway, a lot has been made this summer about the possibility about Roberto Luongo possibly rejoining the Panthers. There has been talk that Theodore -- who has a year left on his contract at $1.5 million -- won't waive his no-trade if Florida was to include him in a possible deal.

Theodore told me today that he has indeed heard all the rumors -- and he is quite used to such talk. No big deal. And while he wouldn't answer my question on whether he was asked by the Panthers to waive his NTC, he did say he hasn't spoken to anyone with the Panthers or the Canucks.

Theodore did say, as I have as well, that with the labor uncertainty neither the Panthers nor Canucks are in any hurry to do anything just yet. Not saying a deal will get done -- but I'm not saying it can't, either.

That story isn't new, it's been around for a long time.

The title is amazing.. You can take it as a double entendre I suppose. But I'm pretty sure he had this in mind:

Yahtzee! I was going for "absurd sequel" title, and thought it was fitting in more than a few ways.

"by far" the best Canadian team. Thats what I will say. My kid only knows what is a good hockey team and a bad team. That will shut em up.

Luongo skating in Florida

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/f...,3137532.story

A couple of interesting quotes in there:

"This (Florida) is a preferred location for obvious reasons but I'm not shutting the door on other possibilities...."

""Obviously, I want to start. That's a given,''

Skip Bayless is an idiot. So is the guy he's always arguing with on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith. I can't stand to hear Smith yell in virtually every sports debate he gets into.

I think people will read into his "starting being a given" comment.

Does that include a tandem? Probably not. I'm curious just what he is will to put up with as far as that goes. Somebody should ask him if a tandem situation is out of the question...

"Gillis isn't going to get more than a 7th round pick for Luongo, his contract is outrageous, he hates Vancouver and it's clear that the only team he will waive his NTC for is Florida. Canucks have no leverage. Prove me wrong."

We all called this anyway. We know he wants to play in Florida, and we know he wants to be a starter.

Just recycled news.

Well the flipside is the fact that some people here believe he will get a first rounder, top guy off their current roster and a blue chip prospect. While we would love to say 29 other teams will be in the bidding for him, it is more like 4 or 5 and with a team like florida who has a built in salary cap for them to take on his actual money Luongo is getting, 6.7mill for the next 6 years it my be hard for them to take on. We can give it as much effort as we like, but as long as Florida has the built in cap and Markstrom in the systerm(whether we like it or he is good), Florida has a lot of reason not to trade for him. I don't see Florida as a good trading partner. It maybe a three way trade.

There is no reason to trade him unless we get something that fills our needs. Dumping him for a B prospect, a mid pick and/or yet another average third liner wouldnt be smart.

or if he loses the starter job during Camp.

We know he wants to be a starter, I want to know his stance on split duties.

Although he's not really saying anything new, I'd be nice if he'd stop using the media to stir things up. I don't think that's his intention, but it's the result. Every time.

Canucks players are starting to filter back to Vancouver. I'm wondering how awkward he's going to feel looking his teammates in the eye after all his comments this summer - knowing there's a good chance he'll be on the roster next yr. Last 2-3 yrs, many Canucks players have talked about the need for them to 'play their role'. That many players could sign elsewhere and play bigger roles, but they don't cause it's why they're a good team. They accept their role and are happy with it. Yet Luongo (with his $45+ M contract) is essentially taking a very different path: "Obviously, I want to start. That's a given." Not sure this will sit well with some teammates.

Also with Florida they have their future number one goalie already in Markstrom and in two years they could be in the same situation that Vancouver is now. The kid is akmost ready, if not this year maybe next and then what does Florida do with Luongo? I do not see Florida being the best partner to get back what we want to get back.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't a 33-year-old goalie, that sits 2nd in wins among current NHLers, be able to say " I want to start"?

Markstrom is far from a sure thing. It's an incredibly difficult transition from the AHL to the NHL for goaltenders, and he's had a lot of health problems. I doubt Tallon is willing to stake his future in Florida on a kid that, while very talented, has proven nothing at the NHL level and hasn't even been able to carry a starter's workload in the minors to this point in his career.

You're eminently sane. It would be weird if he said anything different. Even if he had said "I deserve to start" it would be hard to criticize him, but he didn't say that. His comment is obvious and uncontroversial.
