Another one said close to 240 million lost total, in the last 2 seasons.
When the teams open their books, I'll believe it.

The NHL and the NHLPA have agreed to "stay in touch' this week to keep lines of communication open but no talks planned.

At this rate they'll never get a deal done. Disgraceful that a bunch of grown men can't hammer out their differences to something amicable. If their is no season they'll suffer as well as us. What I hate are these 2-4 hours meetings that they have. They should be negotiating 10-12+ hours a day especially this close to the lockout deadline.

Honestly, considering some of them, what else would they do during the days in the off season? I'm sure some have families, but they still should work.

They should be locked in a room, and not allowed to come out until they have thrashed out a deal.

It's not that difficult.

This is such a pathetic showing from the NHL. Bettman is throwing fuel on the fire, and fehr is just an egotisical moron. If these guys realised that this side show wasn't about them for 2 ****ing seconds we might have a deal in place.

The problem with the long meetings is that if someone presents something and isn't willing to budge on it, it just leads to anger and frustration

Hmm. How much money were Phoenix and Atlanta bleeding? Does Carolina lose money? How much is NJ's debt again?

I remember the NBA claimed to be losing something like 300+ million a year or something, and then they didn't really do much to change a thing.

NJ:

Well that accounts for about 32 million in loss if I'm reading that right. Where did the other 200 million go? Are they building an arena for an expansion team on the Moon?

That's 2010's totals..

Doesn't include this season.. Cap and floor went up a good bit so it's not hard to figure out how some teams are losing money

edit : and the 240m or so that was reported was for 2 years..

So using Phoenix's numbers alone pushes that to 38m

double edit : I'm an idiot.. forgot that the last available number would be the previous year..

Wow Phoenix... that is just ****ing bad. They seriously need a new owner in a better paying environment. I can't believe they league lets them get away with something like that. NJ is fine and Atlanta being up in Winnipeg is so much better for hockey revenue and fans as a whole.

Told the Swedish League may yet change its mind on not allowing NHLers there in event of lockout. Teams want stars like Zetterberg, etc.

If the league wasn't so dead set on keeping them in Arizona, they could have sold them long ago to Jim Balsillie

Maybe the league knew something about the Blackberry that investors did not.

I doubt Anaheim is a fiscal powerhouse, too.

Quebec City probably just took a huge step backwards in attracting a team, with tonight's election of a strong minority Parti Quebecois government. They're the ones who want to separate Quebec from the rest of Canada. I doubt Bettman wants to even sniff the volatility the next 4-5 years will bring.

Yes, I'm depressed.

Bissonette tweeted tonight that only 4 owners have even shown up to the meetings; (later revealed in another tweet by David Pagnotta to be Leonsis (WAS), Leipold (MIN), Jacobs (BOS), Edwards (CGY)).

That's pretty disheartening.

No it isn't.. It's bettman and daly's job to go to the meetings and then let the owners know what is happening. Just like it is Fehr's job to do the same thing to the NHLPA

Admittedly I don't follow Canada's politics at all, but is secession actually an issue?

Did they broadcast AHL games on CSN last time? I was away at school and didn't get CSN during the last lockout.

With the way things are looking I'm fairly certain that there's going to be a lockout. I just wish both sides would stop this cry of poverty and get the **** on with the season.
