Top 10 Winnipeg Jets Home Games To Look Forward To This Season
With a possible National Hockey League-imposed Lockout looming next month (the NHL’s current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires September 15, 2012), Winnipeg Jets fans have to deal with the reality that the Regular Season might not start on October 13th.
Well thankfully Illegal Curve is here to bring you out of the CBA/Lockout darkness.
On the one-year anniversary of last year’s groundbreaking piece, Dave and Ezzy’s Top 10 Winnipeg Jets Home and Away games (the article was actually posted August 26, 2011). Even if there is a possibility that some of them may be cancelled due to a work stoppage we wanted to present you with our Top 10 games to look forward to.
So, without further ado, here is our choices for Top 10 Winnipeg Jets Home Games. We will post our Top 10 Away Games next week.
9. Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, October 13, 2012 (1:00 p.m. CST)
Reason: Using a similar logic to my 10th choice, while seeing the Canes would not usually be on my wish list, listening to Jets fans welcome back their team after a summer hiatus will be well worth the price of admission. Additionally listening to the MTS Centre chant “Marc is better” or something of that nature in derision to Thunder Bay, Ontario natives Jordan and Eric Staal should be entertaining. Of course this game is contingent on the negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA which haven’t been exactly urgent of late.
I have to admit I have a tough time reading articles like this when I'm not even sure if there'll be a season.
If the season goes on, as a Leafs fan (from and living in Toronto) I look forward to watching Winnipeg come to Toronto. I'm still thrilled that the Jets are back in the NHL and I'm going to try and get some tickets to a game when they're here.
In no particular order, here are my top ten Jets home games for the 2012-13 season that I look forward to attending (assuming no lockout):
1) 16 Oct 2012 vs Blackhawks (Oduya's return, Toews' reception)
2) 27 Oct 2012 vs Red Wings (first visit to Winnipeg since spring 1996)
3) 15 Dec 2012 vs Penguins (potentially Crosby's first NHL game in Winnipeg, Glass' return)
4) 2 Jan 2013 vs Wild (big-time free agent signings Parise and Suter in regular season action)
5) 17 Jan 2013 vs Rangers (chance to see Rick Nash for the first time)
6) 9 Feb 2013 vs Canucks (frickin' 9 PM start time, 'nuff said)
7) 28 Feb 2013 vs Flames
8) 11 Jan 2013 vs Devils (Friday night, chance to see Brodeur between the pipes)
9) 17 Feb 2013 vs Canadiens (Sunday afternoon, will be a hot ticket)
10) 29 Nov 2012 vs Maple Leafs (it's a Winnipeg thing to want to beat Toronto)
1 - Edmonton pre-season game just to see all the young guns playing and it's the first pre-season game too!
2 - Oct 13 Carolina for the opener
3 - Oct 16 Chicago... Toews and seeing ol Johnny would be neat.
4 - New York Islanders game either one... missed both of their games last season, would like to see them this season.
5 - Boston either time... same as NYI above
6 - Pittsburgh to see Crosby live at a game.
7 - New Years Eve against Tampa - always a fun time!
8 - Jan 2 - Minnesota - I want to see what $200 Million looks like in person.
9 - Feb 9 - Vancouver - May be my pick of the year for games... a 9 PM game? Should be a lot of fun!
10 - Apr 11 - Florida for many reasons (last reg season game, playoff implication possibility, etc etc) but the other reason is it will be the first time I will be seeing them play!
So we have our lists of games but it seems like they will be scrapped and new lists will be made when the schedule is re-drawn up/scrapped when the season is shortened/scrapped.
A bonus game to add to the list would be a game that won't be a Jets home game... I'm looking forward to seeing the team that gets Roberto Luongo (Florida?) play in Vancouver. The Canadian media will build that game up with tons of drama! lol
Our group did our draft last night. Quite possibly pointless with the strong reality of a lockout. So we'll redraft if we lose anything more than the preseason, but I'll be sad if we do because I like my games. In order:
Red Wings (2nd pick)
Penguins Feb 15 (7th)
Rangers March 14 (12th)
Devils Nov. 13 (20th)
Panthers April 11 (25th)
Canes March 30 (30th)
Sabres April 9 (35th)
Senators March 16th (38th)
Bruins Sept. 30th (43rd)
Should be able to work a deal with a guy in the group as well for another couple of games. He'll go to Wings/Pens with me and I'll get to his Bruins/Habs games so I should make it to twelve total this year.
