You are way underestimating the difference between 1st and 2nd division European leagues IMO.
I think Allsvenskan is higher than AHL and SEL is lower than NHL (in relative terms at least). The gap is smaller is what I mean, because the Allsvenskan is just the worst SEL teams.

But, more importantly, the gap would narrow should NHLers start to flood the Allsvenskan but stay out of the SEL, so I would care even less. He wouldn't be going over there because of the level of competition no matter where he played, so I'd prefer he go whereever he's most comfortable.

No the best 2nd division team is just the next worst 1st division team and all the other 2nd division teams are worse than that team. And while sure any team promoted could in theory win the SEL the next season in reality that team is simply trying to not go straight back down again.

But the idea that the Swedish 2nd division is simply going to fill up with NHLers is ridiculous IMO. NHLers choosing to move to Europe during a lockout are going to be spread throughout all European leagues willing to accept them, which is a lot more than just the Swedish 2nd division and many of them will pay significantly more.

Frankly, the level of competition in many of those leagues would be even worse than the Allsvenskan I think but if that's where the talent goes due to other factors it makes sense to consider them more heavily.

Allsvenskan is not equitable with the Finnish or Russian B leagues. The disparity between the two leagues is not nearly as large as in other European countries, especially in recent years. The top teams in Swe-2 can stand up with many of the teams in the SEL.

Too much.

At this point in his career, Iggy is about equal to what he was traded for initially which was Joe Nieuwendyk straight up. I'd consider Forsberg for Iggy straight up if the Caps were one player away from winning a cup. At this point they are more than one player away so I'd pass.

Iggy even two years ago I would say that was valid. At this point no looking at the perceived capitals strategy of keeping their 'nuts'. Honestly was surprised Calgary held on to Inginla as I figured he would help in trade assets for a rebuild. Not sure what the ownership is doing there.

Look for what Ribeiro went (one more year on the deal as well) and adjust accordingly.

Yeah, I'd pull the trigger two years ago, but today I'd probably throw a pile of cash at Doan first and see if I could hold on to Foppa and the first for now.

Seems like a trade that would be a huge mistake. The Caps are in a regroup situation now in regards to restocking the farm. A trade like this 2 years ago to get the Caps over the top would of made sense, now not so much.

35 year old Iggy who's fallen off the PPG pace is not worth that much. For reference, Nieuwendyk was 29 when Calgary traded him.

As for why the Flames haven't done a rebuild yet, this article explains it pretty clearly. Simply put, it's not a strong enough franchise to survive the down years.

Caps extend Troy Brouwer: 3 years/11 mil/3.67 AAV

I dig it. Good value (even if/when the cap comes down) if he's a top 6 guy and consistent 20 goal threat, which I can see him being.

And Schultz, Poti, and Erskine. He sure loves locking up role players.

Meh, it's not that big of a difference. Blues fans were happy to see him leave, and that's a team whose biggest need is at LD. He's not good enough to upgrade over Hamrlik on the 2nd pairing and he's not a big enough upgrade over Schultz to warrant signing him and then trying to move Schultz, where you run the risk of not finding a partner and having to sit a 2.75M dollar player in the press box night after night (to go along with the 1.5M dollar one that's already there). I'm setting my sights on Hjalmarsson for now, but I'm not too hopefully that McPhee'll be willing to move on from Schultz.

He was playing on the top pairing pretty much the whole year. He's not a top pairing defenseman, but he's a much better skater than Schultz, has more offense to his game, a good outlet pass and when healthy is close to Hamrlik. The mid pairing upgrade is pretty substantial, and with it the entire team.

Coliacovo and Schultz aren't even remotely comparable. They play very different styles and have very different strengths and weaknesses. Cola is an offensive, puck moving defenseman that leaves a lot to be desired in every aspect when in his own zone and who spends half the season on IR. He doesn't fill any sort of need on this team as we already are loaded with puck movers.
