Any of you guys think Varly will go to the KHL for the year if there is indeed a lockout?
Not worried about him going over and staying there, just curious with the Lokamotiv tradgedy last year and how shook up and close to home that was for him if he would still go over and play.
I assume he will definitely go play. I'm hoping he doesn't get too comfortable and ends up staying. The NHL is going to regret not letting this season start on time if they end up losing players to Russia.
While I'm not familiar with what rules the KHL is putting in regarding NHL players playing there in a lockout, I'd imagine Varlamov would go there and play, yes. And I am completely certain that he would come back to Colorado when any lockout ends.

Welp, Russia will likely take every chance to sign him. Not saying I do or do not think he'll come back, I just expect Russia to throw some ridiculous amount of money at him.
more than likely he and many others will play in the KHL during the lockout.
i'm slightly worried that he will want to stay and the money will be too good.
but i think he loves it in Colorado and would come back with a potential contending team in place.

If he's good, a KHL team will offer plenty more than Kroenke would be willing to pay.
Well... Russia has a bigger check book than majority of the NHL teams are willing to offer. It'd be understandable if Kronke doesn't match an insane offer.

The NHL/KHL agreement was just extended another year so he can't just stay there. He's under contract in the NHL for two more years and would have to play that out.
On the KHL topic, I wonder what the KHL would be willing to give up to have Russian prospects (playing in the KHL) bumped back a year for NHL drafting purposes... could be a seriously powerful negotiating tactic which really doesn't hurt the NHL a whole lot.

I don't think that he was serious in considering the KHL, I think that it was all a negotiating tactic.
Plus, he's getting paid decently well thus far, and is on a short-term contract. Should he continue progressing like he has, he is going to make BANK on his next deal.
Varly would go play in the KHL, but once the NHL came back so would he. Don't really know how many more KHL millions he needs to turn down before people understand that he's not lying when he says that he wants to prove himself in the NHL.

Darius Kasparaitis said that it is better to play there, where there is more pay. No one knows how many will continue his career.
As for me, it’s not an argument. However, I also signed a decent contract with Colorado. I am happy with everything.
There were a couple times just before he left Washington when his agent would say stuff about KHL and Varlamov would deny it. I'm personally not of the opinion that he was ever considering KHL unless no NHL team was interested.

He talked in depth in that interview in the link above how he had to decide what he wanted to do, and has said before he was very close to signing there. He was likely using it as leverage, but he was also really considering it.
That said, I'm sure we don't have to worry about him not coming back. He wants to be in the NHL and with the Avs.
He is looking really good in the KHL. I hope he doesn't get too comfortable.. I'm scared he might want to stay.
