The CRTC has not yet approved nor rejected the merger, therefore there is still hope that TSN 690 will be allowed to legally broadcast in English...

If the CRTC approves the flip to french then it would be RDS 690/990.

But if they don't, from what I have read, Bell would still have too many english stations and have to get rid of one (sale or just closing one down).

The odds seemed heavily stacked against any future of 'TSN' 690.

Weird, the 690 signal picks up noise in my car. 990 doesn't.

The disapproval of Bell reminds me of the hate for an American owner of the Habs. If someone wants to step up and put their money on the table, when others prefer to keep it in their back pocket, why is one demonized and the other given a pass?

I understand that over centralization of the media is never a good thing, but why isn't there an equal pressure on the rich locals or other media companies to step up and invest?

It is just too easy to always blame the ones who are willing to get in the pool while the others sit on sidelines.

24 hour sports radio is pretty redundant especially in markets where there are only one or two professional teams to follow.

As long as the habs games are still available on the radio, along with an extensive pre/post game show, that's good enough for me. I really don't feel the need to listen to a guy like marinaro spewing garbage and trying to fill 3 hours of his show or however many hours he does. However, I would miss the insights of guys like McKenzie and McGuire, but that's not the end of the world.

No Bell/Astral takeover means no loss of TSN690/990.

I have a question about the hosts on tsn 690.

I listen to the station while at work and I keep hearing guys like Connor Mckenna and Simon Tsalikas mention about how they have to go to their 'real' jobs and that they have second jobs. Are they not full-time employees? Do guys like Marinaro and Melnick have other jobs to? I always hear people joke around about how radio personnel work only 3 hours a day, but their's much more that goes into it. Do any of you guys know?

Some of them double Like Randy Teimen @ CTV. Mitch Melnick is 1 of Montreal's top castors! You have to be a real City Person to understand that. The show is more pop culture & Classic Rock with Sports added, very unique! You will never find that mix in any other Major Centre, believe me, I've been to every Centre in North America.

If We Lose the station, Mitch will end up on another City Station, Montreal needs Mitch!

CRTC not happy with Bell plans for TSN690

Article is in french... but the gist of it is that the CRTC is upset with Bell's plans of switching the English station to French. Looks like TSN690 is not dead yet!

Does Melnick ever work? The guy comes back briefly after a long time away, then takes another week, and then is off again today after being back only two days. They should change his show name from Melnick in the afternoon to something else.

The young dudes kinda bore me.

It needs PJ back. I have not listen to the channel ever since he left.

And for me it's totally the opposite. Noisy and weak on 990. Crisp and strong on 690. I guess it's the cars....

I agree. PJ knew his stuff and had an interesting show despite the fact he would troll Habs fans for kicks. It made for interesting radio and besides, he had good stories to tell as well. His timeslot is now covered by Tieman and this guy is just so cookie-cutter dull. He is way too agreeable, and he tends to simply follow the course of talk that Marinaro left him with for that particular day.
