There was a thread on the main board a few weeks back out "Lockout Winners and Losers"

Here was my post and I think it fits in well here:

I do see where the OP is going with "winners" even though that is an extremely poor choice of words.

Some prospects will be better off staying put in a lower league as opposed to being put in the NHL.

Being an Isles fan, I know about this.

If the NHL wasn't an option for Nino last year (if there was a lockout last year and Nino couldn't have played in the NHL because there weren't any games...) he would've been forced to stay put in a lower league which would've been better for him in the long run.

I believe this is where the OP is going.
