The 2013 1st probably makes it too much for EDM, no?

How bout no?

Too much from Edmonton's side, and with the details of the CBA up in the air Yandle's cap hit is something the Oilers do not need.

MPS + Gagner alone would not get her done from a Yotes perspective. The 1st would make Maloney listen, no doubt.

I didn't say it would, but there are variations--a 2013 2nd, a 2014 1st, etc.--or, more likely, one of Gagner / MPS, a top prospect, and a 1st / 2nd--which is a more traditional deal structure anyway.

I didn't say it wouldn't be good for Phoenix. I said I can't imagine Edmonton making that offer.

a legitimate #1 or #2 defenseman is something the oilers desperatley need unless they are content with consistently finishing in the bottom of the standings.

mind you i dont think yandle is the type of dman needed in edmonton... they need a marc staal type

No from Edmonton, Rather put a package like that together for a younger defenseman to add to the YOUNG Core..

I can't either.

Maloney has a habit of doing one-sided deals. The only way he would listen to offers for Yandle (who is young and on a fantastic multi-year deal) is if one of Yakupov, Hall, etc.
Oilers would have none of that.

Didn't say Edmonton couldn't use a #1 defenseman, said we can't be taking on his cap hit without knowing the details of the next CBA.

This deal makes Ryan Smyth our 2nd line LW.

Shawn Horcoff our 2 C.

And gives away our first rounder in a pretty decent looking draft.

Those last 3 things are not something that interest me at all as an Oiler fan.

One of Yakupov/Hall/Hemsky would be the 2nd line LW before Smyth. I agree with you on the other points though.

I'll pass. I'm not terribly interested in MPS or Gagner, and after adding Yakupov and Yandle I'm not too confident the pick would even be top 5.

i'd like to get Yandle here for sure, but MPS, Gagner and a 1st rounder is too much to pay.

Younger then 26 would be better between 20-24 would be better IMO at least I just don't think he'll fit in on the oilers.

I am failing to see the point here. Yandle would immediately be on the top pairing for the Oilers, who cares if he's 26 or even 30 for that matter. He would be an upgrade to their blue line which (forgive my ignorance) is their biggest need. He's also signed long term and not a terrible contract.

Why? Smid seems to be a big part of your future, no? What difference does 2 years make? He's also signed until 2016.

value isnt bad, but with the 1st being added its a bit much going to PHX.

My problems with this is that we need a 2C coming back from somewhere if Gagner goes, because we cant have Horcoff play higher than 3C anymore, hes just not good enough.

Also its a bit early to give up a 1st. I assume with Yandle we wouldnt be a lotter pick but no assurance that its not gonna be a high pick. And i think this is pretty much the last drafting stage of the rebuild, and after 2013, and maybe 2014 (depends how progression goes) we wont need picks as much anymore.

Edmonton can't take on all that salary and they need Gagner so that Horcoff doesn't end up playing 2C.

I think the value is fair, but I could totally understand if Edmonton doesn't want to trade 1st round picks just yet.

This could be close. I`d be all over this deal as an Oiler fan if

1) We took one of the two forwards out

2) Change the Oilers 1st round pick to a couple of second round picks

3) Change the 1st round pick to a conditional (ie, swapping picks)

OR

4) Add something (2nd round picks?) coming from Phoenix to Edmonton

Its a pretty close deal.

Smid is pretty similar to Staal, though not as high caliber, I think they'd be more than happy to pick up Yandle, the problem comes down to price. I'd think the Yotes want either Yak or a huge overpayment.

Plus I can't see the Oilers trading their 1st until they see where it is going to land.

neither Columbus for Nash, nor Pittsburgh for Jordan Staal got an overpayment...i think that's poster thinking and not what is reality in today's NHL.

Neither of those teams had a choice other than to move those players. Nash requested a trade and Staal was going to leave as an UFA. Apples to oranges, Phoenix doesn't have to move Yandle.

If this propels Edmonton into the 7-10th place in the west it's a fair deal. If they end up at the bottom once again they lose pretty hard. Maybe a conditional 1st from Phoenix if Edmonton finishes in the lottery.

The concept of trading a star for three maybes does not appeal to me. No thanks.
