Us Bruins fans love this deal. Great to have Marchy back in the fold for another 4+ years.

First of all, for those who don't know, he's already got a contract for next year at a bargain $2.5m.

He would have easily scored 30 last year if not for that suspension.

Plus, his Game 7 performance vs Vancouver was worth $18m by itself.

Great signing compared to what Turris got with Ottawa. Marchand has at least proved he can play and the contract is not all about potential. Good deal

I think it's a fair deal considering the numbers he put up. He was unreal in Boston's cup run as well. Even if people argue he's slightly overpaid, Boston did just lock up a solid young player for 4 more years. Can't be too unhappy about that I imagine.

Marchand has the skills to make this a good deal but as of right now I feel it's an overpayment.

The spin off effect of Lucic's next deal may make this one hurt more though.

All of this is dependant on what the cap is going forward though.

Compared to other contracts that have been handed out recently it doesn't seem unreasonable. Turris @ $3.5 million, Simmonds @$3.975 million. He should be getting more than them anyway.

It's not a bargain like Pacioretty's though.

Fair contract, not an overpay or a steal.

It'll be interesting what this means for Lucic, Rask and Seguin though.

This. Pacioretty was a steal but with the other recent contracts mention above, for a potential 30 goal scorer who agitates and is still only 24. This a good signing and if the Bruins can get Lucic and Segiun tied up as well. The core of the Bruins is looking pretty darn good.

It's not an overpayment, Marchand is a core player and extremely clutch

The bruins play far better when he's out there agitating and water bugging it up

Fair contract

Pacioretty has the same cap hit but for 6 years (bargain) Simmonds (bargain)

Hall/Skinner (overpaid a bit)

Didnt avery get payed close to 4 mil a year for his 5-10 goals and agitating services? Id rather have marchands 25 goals for 4.5

Some of these comparisons are hilarious. Come back when Pacioretty plays a playoff game and wins the Stanley Cup.

He said diving doesn't belong in Boston and he hates when a Bruin does it. Which means he hates when Chara does it, too.

If he can be a pest and a 50-60 point guy on average, I don't see anything wrong with 4.5 a year.

This.

He will prove that the 4.5 will be a bargain after next season if there is one.

Every team dives. One team pointing out another team is just the pot calling the kettle black.

Anyways, good contract for both sides.
Marchand will be prime aged when this expired and could really cash in then.

4.5 for a 24 year old with his skillset is totally reasonable.

Given that other posters have agreed it's definitely not just him.

That said, I don't view this as an over-payment. Hate the Bruins and hate Marchand, but anybody that can score that many points and agitate the opposition the way he does is worth keeping. Is a solid defensive player and shows up big when it counts too. He's a big part of the Bruins recent success and they're wise to lock him up.

Seems fair for all parties. Congrats to Boston, and Marchand too I suppose even if he's my least favorite player in the league.
