Rask is going to be a bargain if he can duplicate his numbers as a no1 tender.

Why does Rask only get a one year deal? I assume Thomas won't be back so wouldn't they wanna lock up their starting goalie for longer

if you go back to that signing thread, a lot of people thought it was wierd, but apparentky rask wanted it too.

if he does perform well, he's going to cash in big on his next contract [removed brainfart] (and boston will be able to pay for it with thomas off the books). Like long term 6M a year big.

My understand it is more of a "prove yourself" type deal. If he wants to bigger $, he's going to have to play for it.

Thomas is the last year of his contract this year... It does not matter really.

Per the bolded, they don't have to move Thomas anywhere after this upcoming season. He's off the books.

As for the Marchand deal, it's within the ballpark of what he's earned. It's certainly not a discount, but it most likely won't be an overpayment over the course of the 4 years. I love every part of his game in terms of how he impacts games on a nightly basis, but his diving was tough to watch last year. I can live with a guy that gets his (ugly) nose dirty, yaps a bit, finishes checks, etc...but I lose respect for guys that embellish.

market value. he had a pretty high shooting percentage, so i expect his goal totals to slip a bit, but he could improve his volume. if marchand (and the marchand-bergy-seguin line as a whole) were given the ice time that other first lines get in a system where julien isn't running 4 lines (sometimes to his detriment imo), then his point and goal totals would be a lot higher. for his production which is a great second liner/fringe first liner, this deal is fine.

really makes me wonder what the **** chia was thinking with the kelly deal though.

Kelly was a UFA and would have been courted heavily by several teams.

I wouldn't call it outstanding, but it was solid.

Good Deals: Julien, Rask, Campbell, Paille, and Khokhlachev

Fair Deals: Marchand, Kelly, kind of indifferent on Svedberg right now

Questionable Deals: Subban (I thought it was too early)

Very, very fair deal.

So excited to have him locked up for a good amount of time. Hell of a player. Doesn't deserve any more, doesn't deserve any less.

i think about half the first round has now signed already. Dont think it's too early. If players arnt happy with the new ELC's in the next CBA, they may stick to junior for just another year and then re-enter the draft.

Seems a little steep, but Marchand does provide a lot of intangibles.

Last year he was 5th on the team in points and 2nd on the team in goals, during their cup run (2011 playoffs) he was 3rd on the team in points and 2nd on the team in goals, and he brings so much more to the table than just scoring. He's absolutely one of the Bruins' best 5 on 5 players, and he's not bad on both the PP and PK either. He's also just 24 years old, and he's played only 2 full seasons in the NHL, so he could still get better. I don't see how anyone can really think this is overpayment.
Exactly. I was surprised they extended him so early, but I like the deal. It's fair value in my mind.

Personally, I don't think he will reach his point total that he got this past season again which makes me think that this contract may be on the high side. BUT, Marchand brings so much else to his game I think that this contract is fair. The fact that he is a pest and able to score as many points as he did this past year makes him pretty much one of a kind in the league and like it or not, most if not all GMs would want this guy on their team. Even if his point total drops dramatically, he has so many elements to his game that this price tag wouldn't be much of a 'bad' contract.

Hope there is no NTC/NMC on it. Could be in caphell and he is not a true Bruin.

Didn't some of the CBA negotiations mentioned a drop in the salary cap to $58 million? And the Bruins signed Marchand to $4.5 million, with the potential of the teams salary cap to take that big of a hit? Seems like a bit of a gamble.

Even at a $70 million cap, it's a slight overpayment. Anything over $3.5 million, for a player of his type, is a bit high.

Pretty fair considering what some player have been getting. As a Habs fan, I hate him, but he's a great 2nd line player and there's no denying that

This is a little too high IMO, especially with the CBA still up in the air. Not outrageously overpaid, but I wouldn't be entirely pleased with it if I were a Bruins fan.
