From what I've gathered it has something to do with the home team having broadcasting rights, and that is what Guatemala decided to do.

Asian qualifying is complete until September, top two teams in each group qualify automatically; the two third placed teams play a two-leg playoff which the winner plays a playoff against the 5th placed South American team

GROUP A
Korea Republic - Lebanon 3:0
Iran - Qatar 0:0

1. Korea Rep. 2 6 +6
2. Iran 2 4 +1
3. Qatar 3 4 -2
4. Uzbekistan 2 1 -1
5. Lebanon 3 1 -4

GROUP B
Australia - Japan 1:1
Iraq - Oman 1:1

1. Japan 3 7 +9
2. Iraq 2 2 0
3. Australia 2 2 0
4. Oman 3 2 -4
5. Jordan 2 1 -6

Group A will be tighter than the second group where Japan is running away with it and Australia is expected to finish 2nd. The first group is wide open outside of Lebanon

Anyone know why Israel is with UEFA whereas all other Middle Eastern countries are in this group?

Around the same time they also kicked Taiwan out due to political pressure, but they came back.

the problem with Uruguay is they have very little depth, expected for a small country but they might have problems in the future. Their Olympic team looked poor

Ecuador squeak out a win at home against Bolivia and have put themselves in a very good position, though South American qualifying still has a loooong way to go. But Ecuador look strong at home, 4 wins in 4 and haven't conceded.

Argentina bury Paraguay 3:1. I guess you can't write Paraguay off yet, but 4 points in 6 matches is digging yourself a hole. Paraguay are in danger of missing their first World Cup since USA 94. If there is a positive for Paraguay, they have a home heavy fixture list remaining.

Peru host Venezuela in the late kickoff in a few hours. Venezuela looking to keep pace after a good start, Peru fighting for their lives at this moment.

It seemed to me Paraguay wanted to injure someone rather than play football. I can't believe they actually finished the game with 11 players

I'm glad Sabella is getting results but the defense and midfield are still a mess. I'm not sure about some of his call ups like, Guinazu, Brana, and Palico they're all dead weight. I would love it if he injects some youth into the team at one point or another.

I guess he wants to call up players playing in Argentina as much as possible. Argentina had problems with players that played well with their european clubs but were very poor for Argentina. But I agree with you I couldnt believe it when I saw Brana, I didnt even know he was still playing.

Argentina are scary good up front but utterly bad on defense and have poor midfield depth. Mascherano is their only legit midfielder, Gago is being played regularly but he's really not that good. I know Pastore plays more an attacking role but at this point I'd try him as a midfielder. What happened to Banega? I thought he had a great future.

Defense is just a mess. You know you have a bad defense when Garay is your best defender. I can't see Argentina going far in the WC with that defense.

Yes it's true. There is no way an arab team from middle east accepts to play against israel for political reasons of course. But also for security reasons, imagine Israel playing in Saudi Arabia or Lebanon, I wouldnt guarantee their players to come back fully safe. Same thing if those teams played in Israel.

It'd be interesting to see what happens if Israel qualifies to the WC.

That's a horrific decision by the ref. Antigua's keeper sent off for "time wasting" in a 1-1 match in the 75th minute.

**** Guatemala takes the lead.

Ruiz was at least a yard offside, CONCACAF officiating strikes again.

Was the ref a woman from Norway by any chance?

Mexico can qualify for the hex as early as Tuesday with a home win over Costa Rica. They just beat CRC away from home 2:0, pretty straight forward win in whats usually a tough place to play
