Tonight's game is probably going to be an object lesson on why Barmes needs to play.

I tuned in to see the final two outs...what happened that has everyone so up in arms?

Probably not...I don't see Holt as having the necessary tools to be a real short stop in the Majors. A back-up, maybe, but if he were to be an every day player I'd say he's a second baseman and that route is blocked.

I'd chance it to some extent if Holt stays red hot; otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Big, what happened wasn't a huge deal, just kind of frustrating. Holt got eaten up on a late hop to give up an infield single, and then Harrison let a ball get passed him that Barmes probably would have made. Then they had a chance for a tough double play but because Harrison's range isn't great, he didn't make a good throw and we only got one out. Nothing too crazy, some well-placed ground balls and so-so defense, but I do think Barmes needs to play, despite what I was saying earlier. Certainly over Harrison, who is in the lineup apparently because he's 2-5 against Wood...

Holt is hot and has been for a while...I don't think what we're seeing here is what we're going to be getting long-term...but that would be nice for a change.

Barmes does have good defense and he proves his value when he's not in the line-up. Considering his bat has been pretty decent of late I want to see him in the line-up over Harrison every time.

This is a case in point as to why the Pirates aren't going to win a wild card spot.

If Soriano got to play every game against the Pirates, he'd possibly be worth his contract.

Absolutely amazing how Barajas can not only not throw out any runner, but not even come particularly close.
