Call me a homer but I think Marchand's an overall better player.
I'd take Marchand over Bolland any day of the week and I'm not saying Bolland is a bad player, but Marchand is superior.

Marchand's talent level is more around Kris Versteeg rather than Dave Bolland or Steve Ott. Fair deal for both sides.

Projected for a 70M cap: $4.5 million is a good deal. For a 58M cap...not so much for now. Let's go with 64M and project what he would be getting in 2005-06 with the 39M cap just for funsies: $2.74M. Not too sure about comparables there but IIRC Brendan Morrison was a $3.2M hit. So not too bad.

I think this is an overpayment. Evander Kane is probably stoked about this comparable, though. Benn, too.

Good signing, IMO. People doing comparisons to deals signed a while ago need to realize that the market has changed. When almost every signing is considered an overpayment, perhaps it's time to re-evaluate what an overpayment is.

Marchand is a player with a unique skillset and is still young enough to grow. You gotta lock those guys up.

Meh. Not bad if he keeps improving. If the cap drops I'm not sure I like the deal much.

As a Bruins fan I am fine with this deal. He is under contract this year for 2.5 so in effect the Bruins have him the next 5 years for 20.5 including 2 UFA years I beleive.

He is a pest and has legit skill which he showed on the highest stage followed up with 28 goals he is going to command money, decent value. Also Marchand is tight with Seguin so this should help the Bruins lock Tyler up as well.

I think if given a chance, he's a first liner. I truly believe he has the will to do it. Like the signing. I'm sure Chiarelli told him to cut the nonsense at the negotiations.

Fair market deal... if Grabovski is making 5.5, and David Jones 4 million... Marchand at 4.5 looks pretty good.

Marchand will be a consistent 25-30 goal scorer with 50-60 points per year.

I rather have him on my team than play him, that is for sure... I am happy he will be a Bruin for another 5 years.

Penalty Killer: Check
Top 6 Forward: Check
25+ Goal scorer: Check
Elite Agitator:Check
Still young, with best years ahead of him: Check
3 pts game 7 SCF: Check
Best Sh goal in SCF History: Check

The kid is a game breaker, He is coming off a 28 goal season, can change a game even if he isn't putting up points. 4.5m is more than fair.

Anyone who is saying this contract is an overpayment should realize that basically a point is worth a minimum of 100,000 dollars. Goals moreso. Although to be honest when you watch Marchand play, yes he's raw, but he's a guy who could end up on a 1st or 2nd team all star on wing some day in my opinion.

4.5 might be a smidge high, but I thought the sames about Ference and Peverley, too, so I should probably shut up. If the cap does drop, you would think there would be some salary give back involved from the players, so where the cap ends up is probably a moot point.

He' a good player and lets face it most of the league is overpaid. 4.5 is about right. BUT he is no 1st or 2nd team all-star. Not even close and never will be.

Depends, though. Depending on the type of rollback, it could be a brilliant deal.

If there's no rollback, though... That's fun.

Seemed like a different player after the cheap shot on Salo. Not as dirty, less effective.

Defensemen everywhere now suddenly feel overpaid after this ground breaking discovery.

I honestly don't see how this is an "overpayment" at all.

If you combine this contract extension with the contract he signed last Summer it is more like a 6 year - $23 million contract.

$3.8 million a year for a top 6 forward. He's entering his prime, 24 years old, kills penalties, can chip in 25+ goals, plays with edge, is a pain in the ass and is still getting better.

I think it's a steal.

It looks like a lot at first glance

But he was a major part of the Cup win and a core player so maybe he could've got more

That seems like maybe half a mil more than I would've paid. And I thought 4.75 was good for Hartnell.
