AAV is used to determine payroll. Tex($22.5M) and AROD($27.5M) have a combined $50M AAV. CC is at $25.4M including the $5M buyout for his vesting option in 2017. $75.4M combined in 3 players. $189M includes $10M-$11M in medical benefits and players on the 40 man roster who spent time on the MLB roster. Pro-rated by the number of days. Cano will get his money. Say $20M. $95M in 4 players. $11M for benefits. Nearly $83M to fill out the rest of the roster.

Called it.

Biggest game of the year in the biggest series of the year against the hottest hitting team, and Girardi starts a struggling rookie with no command and no control

lol what a joke. come back all the way to tie it at six and then the first batter in the bottom of the inning hits an absolute bomb off robertson. this team is laughable right now. and now a base hit lol

Awards:
I love the O's--they've been my "other" team since I moved down here--and I'm happy to see them succeeding after so long. It's fun to see.

Still, this team is greatly over-performing. They have a great bullpen, but don't really do anything else particularly well. Mediocre in getting on base and slugging, below average in quality starts and WHIP, terrible fielding, etc. They should be a .500 team at best. A team can't realistically continue to win 3 out of every 4 close games like the Orioles have been doing.

They do have age on their side, though. The core is relatively young, particularly the pitchers. They'll really need to add an impact bat and front-end starter through FA or trade before next season though if they want to replicate their success from this year. Otherwise, this season will probably prove to be an aberration.

I gave up weeks ago...

I don't trust Cashman to make the necessary changes. And let's be honest, there needs to be changes.
I just wonder will he take the approach 'well we were banged up. if we stay healthy, we will be fine'.....

I think this budget stuff will help the Yankees in the long run. Without it, I see them doing something stupid like giving Granderson a multi year deal.

You never know. If they get hot at the right time anything is possible. A-Rod is back and Tex should be back any day now. Andy should be back in couple weeks. Healthy Pettitte with CC and Kuroda can trouble teams especially with Sabathia's knack of pitching 3 times in a 7 game series.

In his last 37 games -- a 1/4 of the season -- Granderson has a .591 OPS and 47 K's to only 22 hits

Amazing how this guy was an MVP candidate last season.

Granderson is Pedro Cerrano....Nobody will throw him a fastball with two strikes. It's amazing that every pitcher in MLB knows he cant hit breaking pitches down in the zone, he knows he is never getting a fastball with two strikes, and he still is made a fool in every at bat.

How much better would they be with Austin Jackson and Jesus Montero in the lineup.

I'd really like to know how that happens. Missing a close one I understand. That wasn't close at all.

Too bad Tortorella doesn't manage the Yankees. Would be interesting to hear him after the game. lol
Girardi is a snooze fest. His attitude sucks.

Swisher is just god awful. I like Girardi but I just don't understand it...why in the hell is he still in the 2 hole??? wtf He doesn't have a clue up there. He takes first pitch fastballs right down the dick. If I'm him I'm swinging away at them. Screw working the pitch count and seeing pitches at this point. It can't get much worse than this for him if he tries to be more aggressive.

Regardless he should either be benched or moved way down in the order. Ichiro should be moved into the 2 hole. He is a better contact hitter by far, and he knows how to bunt the damn ball, something swisher cannot do. Things a 2 hitter needs to be able to do when you have Jeter leading off.

I think ARod is getting good at bats. I think Cano looks very average, sometimes it looks like he doesn't have a plan up there just by the way he takes pitches with his body language. It's disgusting.
