The Chicago Wolves have signed defenseman Zach Miskovic.

The 27-year-old blueliner appeared in 35 games with the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears last season, registering 3 assists and 26 penalty minutes. He also dished out 2 helpers in three Calder Cup playoff tilts with the Bears last year.

Wheat Kings tweeted that Darian Dziurzynski was signed by Portland. Darian also RT'd it.

San Antonio Rampage General Manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed forward David Pacan to an AHL contract.

Pacan, 21, joins the Rampage from the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League where he spent the last two seasons and played in 133 games, recording 49 goals and 77 assists. During the IceDogs playoff run last year, Pacan averaged 1.00 points per game on eight goals and 12 assists in 20 games as the club made it to the Robertson Cup Finals.
Quote:
Pacan was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
His rights were dealt to Florida in the Michael Frolik trade.

A strange year for AHL contracts. I guess it's linked to the possible lockout, but it's bizarre to see players like Callahan, Sterling, Paetsch, Taffe, DiSalvatore, Josh Green, St. Pierre, Craig and Jaffray on AHL contracts.

On the other hand, some AHL/ECHL tweeners like Antoine Roussel, Jon Landry, Brandon DeFazio, Blair Riley, Kevin Henderson and Matt Clackson were able to land NHL contracts.

In some cases (Sterling, Taffe), it's about money. They might loose the chance to play a few games in the NHL but they'll make much more "AHL money"

For the rest, I guess they either had limited options or maybe they just waited too long.

The Boston Bruins made another minor league move this week signing Justin Courtnall to a contract with the Providence Bruins, according to a Bruins source.

The 23-year-old lefty-shooting forward opted to forego his senior season at Boston University to sign with the Bruins organization after taking part in Boston’s Development Camp back in July. Courtnall is the son of former Bruins forward Geoff Courtnall, and the nephew of Russ Courtnall in an impressive example of NHL bloodlines.
Quote:
Courtnall is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound gritty forward that didn’t put up big numbers for the Terriers as attested by his 13 career points in 92 games for Boston University, but the Bruins saw something they liked back in July during the practice sessions at Ristuccia Arena.

The Dallas Stars struck an American Hockey League deal with former DU defenseman John Ryder of Colorado Springs, who is one of the most entertaining players I have ever seen play the game. Ryder signed a one-year deal with the Texas Stars, based in Austin.
Quote:
Ryder is about 6-foot and 200 pounds but plays the game with no fear. He’s a big-time check waiting to happen, and although he never scored a goal in 152 career NCAA games, he became a force for the Pioneers. He perfected unpenalized checks on the puck carrier in the neutral zone or inside the blue line to the point that you would pay attention to him as if he was the best offensive player on the ice.

The Providence Bruins, entering their 21st season in the American Hockey League, announced today that the club has re-signed forward Kyle MacKinnon to an AHL contract. Per club policy, the financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
MacKinnon, 24, skated in 67 games for the P-Bruins last season, recording 21 points on 14 goals and 7 assists. His 14 goals ranked third among rookies and fifth on the squad. The forward went pointless in two games with the Reading Royals (ECHL).

It's clear that he got this contract because of his connections. I had no clue this AtJHL league existed, before checking his profile in eliteprospects.

Former UMass hockey forward Danny Hobbs signed a one-way American Hockey League contract last month with the Connecticut Whale, AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers. Hobbs, who was selected by the Rangers in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2007, completed his senior season with the Minutemen in 2011-12.

Winnipeg Jets resign Spencer Machacek to a two way contract that will most likely see him in St.John's.

The IceCaps have a deeper forward core then last years. Their offense is going to be great to watch this season.

Here is a good explanation on why you will see players signed to NHL two-way deals signing AHL deals to play during the lockout:

http://blog.syracuse.com/crunch/2012...mina_says.html

Quote:
Veteran defenseman Matt Taormina said Friday he has verbally agreed to an AHL deal that will allow him to play for the Syracuse Crunch during the NHL lockout.
Taormina needed the pact because he is on a two-way deal with the Lightning and needed to clear NHL waivers before he could be assigned to Syracuse. But the Lightning did not place him on waivers, meaning a new, temporary AHL deal was required to place him in the lower league.

However, I won't add them to the list since I don't consider them "real" AHL contracts.
