he did score 28 goals in his 2nd season, so i guess he may have a 35 goal season in him.

Overpayment in my opinion. Worth about 3.5 in reality

He had one good playoff. Outside of that... well he was pretty disappointing (like most Bruins) last year. I wouldn't call that an awesome playoff record.

You mean, one successful Cup run out of two playoffs? I think having a subpar 1st round doesn't negate the fact he potted 11 goals and 19 points, helping his team squak through three Game 7's.

Great player but I just dont see this contract being a steal at the end like some of the current newly signed contracts may end up being.

I think this was a tad bit overpriced. However a good job by PC to lock up a guy who will be a key piece for their team.

He had a solid regular season, his playoffs were disappointed but like you said most of the Bruins didn't show up against the Caps

Talking about Brad Marchand's "disappointing" playoffs of 2011-2012 and his "fantastic" playoffs of 2010-2011 is a waste of time. You may as well look at any random stretch of 7 or 25 games.. Results (goals/assists) are not what you measure a player by in sample sizes that small. Just like even great teams can have a terrible stretch of games, or poor teams can have a fantastic winning streak, players can over or underachieve over periods of time and that's just not how you accurately measure their ability.

Marchand is a career 14.1% shooter. During the cup run he shot 18%, and last year he shot 5.9%. He isn't as good as the 2010-2011 playoffs suggest, and he isn't nearly as bad as the 2011-2012 playoffs suggest.

Interestingly enough, his career playoff shooting percentage is 15.3% - gee, it's almost like shooting percentages tend to regress over time to the players' career average or "actual" shooting talent...

I don't agree with some of his conduct on the ice, but as far as his value to the Bruins, this is a great deal for both sides. Marchand is an impact player on this team and he fits their mold like a glove. As others have said, if he can calm down the embellishments a little bit and focus more on his game, he could be that much better. $4.5m for a probable 30 goal scorer with an edge is more then fair.

From what I've seen (not a whole lot), he reminds me a lot of Dustin Brown when he was entering the league. If so, the Bruins, like the Kings did, will have a huge steal within the next year or two with this contract.

Good player, but $4.5M a season is too much.

Great contract. He is definitely worth that much to the Bruins.
