Most underrated Ranger... by Rangers fans

Bored in the offseason/lockout thread #1

Pretty self explanatory. Which Rangers player is the most underrated by fellow Rangers fans.

In my opinion, it's easily Marc Staal. When fully healthy, and at the top of his game (refer to 2012 playoffs) he is still the best defenseman on the team. He might not have all of the assets of McDonagh (or even G) he still plays the best core game. Now, 2nd year McDonagh is far better than 2nd year Staal, but right now, Staal is still the best defenseman on the team. (He also has a pretty good shot)

Staal.

Stralman maybe? He had a great playoff run with us.

I agree with Boyle - people talk about him on the third line like it's going to be the team's undoing. I think he's got all of the necessary tools to play that position well and will show us when the season finally starts back up.

gaborik or staal seem to be two guys that some people love to throw into trade proposal threads

Staal. He is out injured for part of a season and all of a sudden everyone forgets about him. Boyle, if anything, is over-rated around here.

For me its between Staal and Gaborik.

But I'll say Staal, he seems to be underrated by Ranger fans and non-ranger fans to. People forget how dominant he can be.

Girardi.

AFAIC McDonagh is a s good as Staal now and probably is going to be better. He definitely has more untapped offensive potential. Staal has great reach and puck skills in the defensive zone but not that much confidence making plays at the offensive end. McD's a better skater and as good defensively as Staal is. Reminds me of a bigger more physical version of Scott Niedermayer.

Well Girardi and Boyle have this in common--if the season starts on time by the beginning of 2013 there will be at least 20 threads on this forum trading either of them for whatever.

Stralman didn't get enough credit all season. I thought he was a decent 4/5/6th guy all year.

Boyle. People really don't get that he's tailored to our system and is the ideal 3C for us. Wins face offs, pots a fair amount of goals, but above all else handles tremendous and very taxing defensive responsibilities at both even strength and on the PK. All of this together means people need to stop trying to throw Boyle to the fourth line, because quite frankly no one is going to fill the role as well as him. He has a pretty good price tag too if I may add as well.

Historically, Girardi, through his hole creer. Including the nonsense about letting Gaborik be a man and fight his own fight.

Everyone knows that Girardi and Staal are great players and give them the recognition they deserve. They just aren't as hyped as Lundqvist or Gaborik. I'd say Boyle or Stralman are the most 'underrated' by fans. Stralman had a great season IMO considering what we originally were expecting from him.

Staal and Boyle are two that immediately come to mind.

If Ranger fans say Staal is underrated by Ranger fans, is he still underrated?
