Agreed. Bergy was the quintascential 3rd liner for us when in the lineup. And he's proven he's a big time playoff performer that is super valuable. I dont see how it really benefits FL to move Bergenheim.

Thats why the Panthers signed Mueller though to help the transition of Huberdeau and be a top 6 forward at RW that they needed. Tallon has already said he likes the idea of Huberdeau & Mueller on a line together. So unless Raymond can play center, I dont see how he helps Florida's top 6 that much. Howden may not even make the roster but if he does, it wont be in a top 6 role so thats not an issue. We need to keep guys like Bergy who works his ass off and gives the youth a good example IMO.

No from Florida, that trade does us absolutely nothing. And Bergenheim is clutch, wont give him up for spare-parts.

So theres countless proposals sending a goalie to these teams from Vancouver.
Im gonna try to make a set of proposals to each team that doesnt involve goaltending.
(Yes they may not be that perfect, but some potentially discussion that isnt just "lulongo is overpaidz")

Florida
Mason Raymond
Andrew Alberts

Vancouver
Shawn Matthias
Mike Weaver

Fla gets some added offense in the top-6.
Weaver has shown success with Garrison in the past, and at the very least gives us an imorovement over Alberts. (Wever/Alberts match salaries).

Toronto
Chris Tanev
3rd Round 2013

Vancouver
Carter Ashton
Cody Franson

Vancouver gets a winger who could be #1 callup, and a future Higgins replacement.
Toronto gets an NHL ready d-man who could play a top-4 role next to Gardiner next season.
Franson gives Vancouver an improvemet in defensive depth and gives them some extra insurance in the event of injuries.

Chicago
Jordan Schroeder

Vancouver
Kyle Beach

With Matthias and Gaunce in the system, Schroeder becomes fairly expendable.

Chicago and Vanxcouver swap prospects, and Vancouver gets a bit of a project winger.

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Higgins
Hansen Matthias Kassian
Lapierre Manny Beach (Weise, Volpatti etc)

Hamhuis Bieksa
Edler Garrison
Ballard Weaver
Franson

Firstly, Florida takes on 1 million in cap/salary.

Secondly, I don't see whay Florida would give up on Matthias right now. He put up 10 goals and 24 points averaging 13:48/game. He's a 6'4'' 24 year old who looks like he's just about to break out.

The truth is that players like Raymond and Alberts have virtually no value. An Alberts equivalent could be had on the UFA market for free. Raymond was almost not qualified and had to take a paycut. Raymond will have to rebound with a solid year to gain any value. Raymond put up 20 points last season. Raymond also becomes a UFA next season. If you really want him, just wait and get him for free.

I wouldnt exactly say Matthias value is stellar at the moment.

Mason Raymonds career lows have been as good as Matthias highs production wise.

Both are just above average defensively, and neither really plays a physical brand of hockey.

I meant that Weaver and Alberts had matching salaries. I know Alberts has low value, its more of a cap/contract situation to bring in Weaver.

I'd rather have Schroeder than Beach, tbh.

The Toronto trade doesn't make sense from their perspective, they're deep on defense and want to add toughness to their top-9.

Mason Raymond alone wouldn't get us Matthias + Weaver, and Alberts has zero value.

I believe we've been through this. Tanev for Collberg.

We have no interest in downgrading our defense unless we get a (potential) improvement in front.

Chicago passes. Beach would have gotten an extended look last year if not for his shoulder injury.

And a decent chunk of people think Schroeder outperformed Hodgson in last years camp.

So then keep him? Beach's size and physicallity could have been used on Chicago last year and Chicago, a team filled to the brim with skilled players, has no reason to move him for just that, a skilled player - and a small one at that.

Well, I looked at the first proposal and tought franson<diaz/weber and Palushaj is pretty much ready for top 6, he's been good, but used on the freaking fourth line. I'd love to have him on the team but he's not going to take Bourque, Patches, Cole, and Gionta's place sadly..

MTL won't move a newly acquired prospect, especially of his level..

Fair enough. I wouldn't do the proposed deal either. I believ Tanev will become a solid top-4 defensive dman, while Ashton tops out as a 2-3rd line tweener.

Collberg probably has more potential to be an impact player than Tanev, but Tanev is still the safer pick. I understand you wouldn't do it, I guess.

I wouldn't do the deal without Franson, let alone with him. Tanev would not be top 4 for us, snd we don't need Gardiner/Tanev/Holzer all rookie/sophmores, in our top 6. and Ashton is our ideal 3rd line RW, so no.

I'm not sure I understand the revamped Leafs proposal.

Why move Franson AND Ashton to bring back a "NHL ready dman"....does Franson not meet that criteria as well?

Some canuck fans needs to realize that not many non-canuck fans think as highly of Tanev as some Canuck fans. Every fan base has a player they over value and it looks more and more Tanev is the player that the vancouver fan base over values and other fans bases will look and ask what they are missing. Right now Tanev is the third pairing D-man with Ballard for Vancouver and until he plays a full season he will have more value in the eyes of canuck fans than other fans

You seem to be going in the wrong direction here....

Toronto has no interest in a Franson/Tanev swap, and even less in an Ashton / 3rd swap. Try taking out Franson, Ashton, Tanev and the 3rd, and you might be on to something!
