Fantastic deal for boston. Seguin is a great two-way player who is only going to get better.

Owners: We must limit contracts to 5 years! Salaries are too high!
Owner: Here is a $34M 6year contract given to a teenager. By the way we are poor and we can't afford to offer these salaries.

Nice deal for the Bruins.

What? It's an extra year, he's an arguably better player and it's only 250k. Get real.

Reading this thread it's pretty amazing to see the massive difference in reaction between this deal and Halls. This signing is being called "the best signing of the summer" but Halls deal which is 7 years instead of six and only 250k more was called an overpay and too early. Like I said you can argue either way about who's better.

Don't know why the Bruins didn't go for 8+ years instead, but whatever. Makes no sense to me to let a guy hit UFA right in the meat of his peak years.

What about Skinner makes you think he's better than Hall?

You could argue, but most people would prefer Seguin... Hence the reaction of this thread compared to the Hall thread... Better player, keeps his head up. I think that's the difference.

Meh... Hall had a better PPG average last season, I wouldn't go as far as to say it makes Hall's contract look silly.

Hall is paid 250K more because of the UFA year, most likely.
The players are pretty even, because of Hall's PPG, but Seguin played more games.
It still remains to be seen who ends up being better..

I think this will end up being a steal for the Bruins. I predict Seguin will be in the top 10 goal scorers for several years. I hope he gets a chance to center his own line soon. He's great with Bergeron and Marchand, but I'd like to see Krejci moved after this season so Seguin can play his natural position and take on a bigger offensive role.

After every contract I love Tavares' contract more and more.

Great deal for Seguin and Boston though.

Great deal for both sides, especially considering some of the ridiculousness being handed out this summer

I remember being told that Chiarelli would get him signed to a bridge contract while I said that Seguin would get a deal similar to Skinner's and Hall's

Good deal for Boston IMO who have now guaranteed that he will be there for at least some of his prime years.

Ridiculous. No way a player that young should be getting paid this much. Boston has all the leverage so they should have given him 2 million until the end of RFA and then give him a bit of a raise at UFA if they feel like keeping him.

These contracts to young players are ruining hockey. No wonder the league is going to lockout.

Good deal just like the Hall deal but of course, HF thinks differently for some odd reason.

Anyway, good on the Bruins for getting him locked up for what will likely be a bargain in a couple of years.
I know that these 2nd contracts look ridiculous now but guys like Tavares, Myers, Hall, Seguin, Eberle and Skinner barring injury look like virtual locks to be great players so even though there is some risk involved, these teams are identifying these guys as core players and are paying them as such and are getting it done sooner since they will likely be pricier the longer they wait to extend them.
