The Avs are an incredibly young team. Hejduk likely asked to be relieved of the responsibility after the season he had, and they want to keep this core intact and have them grow up together. Landeskog was bound to be captain anyway eventually, why not do it now.

Plus there's no way they would reward players like Stastny or Duchene with such an honor after their play last season. Only other likely options are EJ or O'Reilly.

Some of the Rangers are back in town

Quote:
Training camp doesn’t open until Sept. 21 and, of course, a likely lockout on Sept. 15 would delay that until a new collective bargaining agreement can be reached. But it was a pretty decent sized group on the ice today - 14 players including newcomers Rick Nash, Taylor Pyatt and Jeff Halpern along with veterans Henrik Lundqvist, Brad Richards, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi and Anton Stralman as well as younger veterans Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Stu Bickel, Carl Hagelin and Chris Kreider.
Del Zotto is also skating with the Rangers players.

DZ didn't have much to say about his contract. He is part of a big club. Carlson. ROR. Subban. Benn. No arbitration rights.

I love how Stralman is part of the veterans, and Bickel is a part of the "younger veterans". There a huge leap in age between the two: about 60 days..

Anyone but me thinks that "the negotians are out of my control, I can't do anything about it now" is a bit of a stupid thing to say? Don't get me wrong, of course the players should negotiate and try to get fair "market value", but "out of his control" is a bit of a bold statement. He can end the negotiations whenever he wants by just writing his name.

Strålman has played in 285 games (including 20 playoff games), while Bickel has played in 69 games (including 18 playoff games). That is reason why Strålman is refered to as a veteran and Bickel is part of the "younger" group. Age at this point has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, I understand that, but in this case I think age has something to do with it, as I don't see a 33 year old, (with 20 NHL games under his belt) making it into that group. Or would he? That would be even funnier..

Kreider would be eligible to play in the AHL, though, after his performance in the postseason, he’d prefer to make his professional regular-season debut in a Rangers’ uniform. Sporting a close-cropped buzz and looking every more muscular than he was in the playoffs, Kreider said he spent the summer working on interval training - on the bicycle, with the sled and on the ice (40-50 second bursts) - to increase his strength. Kreider said, following the advice to not burn himself out, he was on the ice less this summer than in the past.

“I think I feel stronger, faster,” Kreider said.
http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/r...er_look_ahead/

Kreider also had a longer season in 11-12. He played 18 playoff games after playing a full college season.

Looks like we can put the Doan thing to rest, though I never thought he'd leave Phoenix as long as the ownership situation stabilized:

EDIT: I missed the mentions of this on the other thread. Disregard this post.

Odd. They have quite a few D-men already at their disposal.

Keith
Seabrook
Leddy
Hjalmarsson
Oduya
Montador
Brookbank
Olsen

Now add Rozy to that list. Wonder if they're prepping to move out Hjalmarsson. Rumors have been swirling around him for a while.

Well, it certainly makes it interesting on who the Rangers will try to pick up. They are not doing anything until the CBA is finished.

I still don't know whats going on with Visnovsky(though that seems doubtful with a potentially shrinking cap).

Since the Rangers signed Eminger, they may start the season with what they got. But I would like them to pick up another Dman.

Also wildcard would be Leddy (Though I think Hawks would be crazy to do that)

With Clendening moving to AHL and drafting of another Leddy like PMD in 2nd round of this years draft the Hawks could decide to try and package Leddy in a deal for a longterm #2 C

One thing I have wondered for awhile is if Brodeur will play long enough to ever face his son in the opposing net.
