Chicago
Ryan Getzlaf

Anaheim
Nick Leddy

Ducks have Fowler so no need for Leddy really ,,, And they would want more then a young dman and good (Not great) prospect

Also Hawks would have to give Getzlaf a big contract extension which would be difficult with likely cuts in cap and Hawks already having so many big contracts

Getting Getzlaf and signing him to big longterm deal puts Hawks right back into caphell going forward

Setting aside your proposal, what are Chicago's needs? Anything of interest on the Flyers? They could use a young, PMD, if the price was right.

It would have to be Dan Briere.

Our needs are 2C / G

Doesn't seem good for either team.

ouch, the ducks bite hard. one difficult season doesn't change the way the Ducks see their captain. another year or mediocrity however and Getzlaf may become available.

Not really a fair trade for the Ducks.

Setting aside value, he has a NMC and an tricky family situation, so I doubt he would move.

What about Matt Read--a natural center converted to wing, relatively cheap, and strong two-way play?

Maybe for Hammer. Leddy's upside is too high.

Hjalmarsson isn't the kind of defenseman the Flyers need.

Ah well, it was worth a try.

I don't think it benefits the Ducks enough to get the deal done. Since Getzlaf is the major player in this trade Chicago sadly has to match his talent level or overpay in prospects. Plus he has always had a good relationships with the Ducks and fan base. So the Ducks are less likely to trade since he is regarded as one of our best players.

Unless they know for a fact Getzlaf won't re-sign, I don't see why they would consider trading him for futures/young players that don't fill a need.

I thought Anaheim was one of the teams losing money every year that is forcing the lockout?

Yup, that is a true statement kind of. The Ducks are somewhat profitable since the lockout. The last couple years they have been losing money. The thing is though is we aren't hurting for cash.

Terrible. Ducks would start with Keith if anything and add quite a few pieces.

This is a pretty insulting trade offer dude.

I don't think you'd like it if we offered:

Holland + Sbisa

for Toews

No, but I wouldn't call Fowler and Etem for Kane insulting, which would be closer to an equivalent. I'd call it a decent offer.

Doesn't matter. OP's trade creates a hole and then doesn't fill it.

Well yeah. Etem and Fowler are better than Leddy and TT (and I'm not being a homer. I'm a fan of the Hawks as well.)

Not only that but Getzlaf when he's on his game >> Kane.

Ducks say no. First, the Ducks are weakest down the middle, so trading a center, especially their first line center and one of their best players, makes no sense. Second, Anaheim seems to want to compete and is not rebuilding. They won't trade their first line center for a good young puck-mover (already have Fowler anyway) and a really good prospect. That creates an even bigger hole at center and literally sends the message that the team doesn't want to be competitive this year. Saku Koivu would be their best center. Like I said, the center depth would be atrocious, and I love Koivu, but he's not Koivu of years past.

We don't need Getzlaf anyway. Sure, he's a great player and would be a great one two with Toews, but he'd command a TON of money to re-sign and Chicago simply couldn't afford to do that.

Value's not good for the Ducks and they have no reason to do it. The Hawks should target someone cheaper than Getzlaf, so they stay away too.
