The Rangers are believed to have offered Del Zotto a two- or three-year contract in the neighborhood of $2.5 million per. The 22-year-old, fourth-year pro, who is coming off an Entry Level contract and whose limited systemic leverage is not likely to increase under the next CBA, is believed to be seeking a longer and more lucrative deal.

3 years will be worth more than $2.5M per.

Great deal for Rozsival who is more than a solid 3rd pairing d-man. Makes you wonder if the Rangers were in on him and he had decided to go to Chicago so they finalized with Eminger.....

I would take Rozsival over anyone in the current bottom six on this team.

Im sure the Rangers would've offered him a similar price. Thats good value for a guy that can fill top 4 minutes in a pinch.

Wonder if the fans unjustly treating him like **** here had anything to do with his decision to go to Chicago.

Dunno why he'd want to come back after the way he was treated. Hell, he was even booed when he turned his number over at the retirement ceremony.

Where are the Rangers finding $4M or even $2M for Rozsival?

They still need to sign Del Zotto. I heard Nick Kypreos on the Fan 590 today. Hockey Central. He has close ties to the Rangers brass. Messier and Graves. Kyper said the Rangers don't want to do a long term deal with DZ because the Rangers don't know what they have with him. He was very good in the first half of his rookie year. Tailed off a bit. Was terrible in his 2nd year. Bounced back last season. The Rangers want DZ to show them he is worth a longer commitment. 4-6 year deal.

Kyper at 40 minutes Nash could put the Rangers in a position to move Gaborik. MacLean said for that right type of D.

Aside from the fact he's an injured asset... I just don't see that unless some team overpays...

I think the potential decrease in the salary cap does a lot more to free up Gaborik than Nash does. Sure, you can move him for another puck mover on the blue line, but if that happens, we're going to need a kid who isn't named Kreider to step up and prove they can be a top-six forward. Might be Hagelin, but losing a 40 scorer is tough to absorb.

Would've happily traded the Asham and Eminger signings in exchange for Roszival.

But yea, water under the bridge.

Gaborik will be back by November. The league may not be playing by the time Gaborik is ready to play again.

Good point.

I just don't think the Rangers acquired one 40 goal scorer in order to trade their current one during the same offseason. I COULD see Gaborik being dealt next year when more players come up for their new contracts.

For this year, I think it would have to be a very good offer for Gaborik to be dealt. A team starved for offense? Perhaps a legit top 4 defenseman (PP QB?) on a reasonable contract, and a 2-way top 6 forward who is capable of potting 25 or more goals (a player whose more suited to the playoff grind?).

I guess it's always possible that Tortorella and Sather aren't thrilled about Gaborik's playoff play. Injuries aside, he's not a guy who can/will take that physical beating. That's just not his game...

Awesome, we finally have a legit offense and someone mentions trading Gaborik, and for a defensemen (and we have 4 very good top ones already) no less.

Gaborik isn't going anywhere unless he's absolutely tanking it from the point he comes back from the IR to the trade deadline.

People see a new shiny toy and immediately forget about the old one and its uses. Gaborik finally became our go-to guy last year, took responsibility, and became clutch (minus the playoffs where he was playing with a torn labrum).

Another thing people are going to need to understand, is that this team won't be as dominant in the regular season as it was last year. Make no mistake, the roster, as currently constructed, is much more of a playoff geared team. Our bottom 6 is quite weak, and won't be considered "strong" until next season at the earliest. We also have some injuries and depth issues that will need to be addressed at some point for us to be legit.

I like that we didn't get Doan. I was on the fence about getting him to begin with, but now that he chose to stay in PHX (which was the best move he could have done in my opinion), I think this presents an excellent opportunity for a few of our young players to make the team straight out of camp.

Asham's not going to be playing for the first 20 or so games. I can't envision a scenario where both Rupp and Haley play on the same line, either. So that leaves about 2 roster spots for our prospects to take: a 4th line spot, and a 3rd line spot. I'm going to assume Newbury takes the role of Brandon Prust, temporarily until Asham comes back. That leaves Thomas, Miller, Fast, and maybe even Bourque to try and get that 3rd line spot. This is going to be one exciting camp to watch, or a temporarily exciting AHL season... depending on what happens these coming few days.
