Definitely whoa. Goal just doesn't sound right to me.

Also, we all know we scored, there's no need to all yell goal like someone may have missed what just happened. We're celebrating, not informing sleeping fans.

True, but it could be argued that we should sing "Goooaaaall" to inform the suits on their phones sitting in the lower bowl that a goal was scored

I really want to argue, but your logic is impeccable.

haha I think this was a poll already. Most people actually say "Goal" At the games they even show "Goal" on the Jumbotron during the song, so many people figure that's what it is. Castoldi actually wrote it as "Whoa" but more people say "Goal" I think either way you're right. But technically...it's "Whoa"

Technically it was written as "whoa" but they don't even use that version. The jumbotron even says "Gooo-oooo-ooooal." To be honest I'm not even sure the actual song played at MSG says anything, I think it's just music when the fans chant "goooal." I don't know a single regular at MSG that actually chants "whoa" during the goal song.

Same here. They played that instrumental version during the playoffs which was different than the regular one. Not sure if it had the words in it though.

Its "whoa".

Clear as clear can be.

If "goal" is on the jumbo tron, those folks are hard of hearing.

Its like listening to Tiny Dancer and trying to convince people Elton John is saying Tony Danza.

We need hockey...

I'd like to have this debate alot more often in the future, especially following powerplays.

Read my post. It's clear as clear can be on the original song. The Rangers don't use that version at games. I don't mean this in a condescending way, but do you go to games? Generally the people I've come across who say "whoa" don't go to many games and just download/hear the Rangers goal song somewhere on youtube or something and assume that's what's sung at the games. It's not. It's pretty universally known to the MSG regulars that it's "goal." And the Rangers put up "gooo-ooo-oooaal" on the jumbotron to clear the confusion and make it known that's what you sing. I don't know why this gets argued so many times on here.

This. Originally, it may have been "whoa", but it is 100% clear that it is now "goal". As an "MSG regular", I know.

Also, when they play their Rangers playlist in the MSG lobby before games, I'm pretty sure the goal song actually says "goal" in that version and isn't instrumentals like I originally speculated the MSG version might be. So again, original song says "whoa," MSG version is "goal."

lol i feel like this whole thread is going to be about repeating the same thing over and over. It's not really a debate, the song is "Whoa" but sing it however you want, because as long as we're singing something, that means the Rangers are scoring goals.

My new wife and I have this debate every year. She says goal. I say whoa. Either way it means we're celebrating. Plus we just walked into it for our reception.

I don't have money like that, i get to one or two per year.

So i apologize if thats the case.

The song i have that i listen to is whoa.

This is definitely like Tiny Dancer. Way too much confusion.

They should re-release the song if they changed it to goal.

seems pretty condescending to say that REAL garden regulars say goal, and non-regulars say woah. i'm not a season ticket holder (that's expensive) but i go to a good number of games every year and i've heard it mixed throughout the crowd. i just don't think about it and one or the other comes out

I go to less games than I used to, but I've spent thousands on tickets over the past seasons and I've always said whoa.

This "real garden regulars say goal" thing is nonsense. You aren't cooler than anyone else because you get to more games. There shouldn't be tiers of fandom, don't put yourself on a pedestal.
