Well, when you give up a 1st for a guy like this, you better protect the investment.

Decent player who plays a good physical game, slight over payment but they had to sign him after giving up a first. Similar situation to Nashville and Paul Gaustad.

Slight overpayment, 3 mil would've been better

Slight overpayment and too early to re-sign. IMO But Brouwer brings a game that everyone else on the team lacks, so I guess its a good thing they locked him up for the next four seasons.

I'm surprised it's Caps fan who writes that. We have a lot of checkers and competitive guys. Ovi is at the top in hits, too. Hendricks, Beagle, Laich, now Crabb. Team doesn't really lack that element

Brouwer brings the go-to-the-net attitude with being a top ten hitter in the League. Hendy, Snoopy, and Crabb are fourth liners that I wouldn't pay a contract like this to. Yes they play physical but not at a level that Brouwer does. Ovechkin hits but doesn't crash the net as much anymore. He also toned down a lot of his physical play due to the suspensions and penalties. And Laich is an overpaid guy who competes but doesn't punish people with his hits. He plays with a bit of grit but not much. Still plays with effort so I don't ***** about it too much.

Brouwer is good player for the team and brings what they need (with Knuble getting demoted and released to FA) but I still think it was too early to re-sign him and at a but too much. Hopefully he can stay healthy and increase his point production to offset the cost.

I imagine Brouwer's value will increase (and hence this deal will look better) if Oates instills a strong forecheck. I even think it's ok as is for a top-6er/20ish goal guy, but without knowing what the cap will do I guess it's tough to say.

Top Ten Hits is good.

Team worst -15 is terrible.

I wonder if he'll still be in the top 6 by the end of that contract. Ovie, Backstrom, and Johansson are already here, Galiev looks extremely promising, and Kuznetsov and Forsberg are pretty much sure things.

There's generally going to be space for at least two highly physical players in the top 6, at least if forechecking is a priority. In that case Forsberg would be Brouwer's main competition, and this gives a 3 year overlap which might be welcome as training wheels.

Seems a bit much for a 30-40 point guy.

Slight overpayment, he's still worth it though to the Caps. Good solid player.

This surpasses Carle as the worst contract signed this summer.

not bad. he was UFA after this yr, so this is his UFA contract. it signals they intend to give him consistent top-6 mins. just over 3.5m for a 20g winger who's top-10 in the league in hits is not bad.

Wow that is horrid overpayment

Brouwer is a ghost offensively most of year and defensively is a wreck

But if Caps like him ,, Then ok

Personally, I just can't wait until we've got a Wilson-Laich-Brouwer 3rd line. If Wilson even comes close to reaching his potential, that line would be devastating.

Good for Brouwer. Not a bad deal for Washington, but not great either.

Bet they could have locked him up for less after the new CBA, but that's just some guesswork on my part really.
