Colaiacavo is trash, the only times he looked decent was because he was paired with Pietrangelo. If the Wings are hoping he'll be their savior on D, they will be sorely disappointed.

Yeah, because saviours command $2.5 million a season these days.

Red Wings are talking to UFA D Carlo Colaiacovo, but he is not signed. They've wanted to add veteran D for depth.

We win! Now if only we can get Calgary on board for the three-way trade that sends JBo to Detroit...

Seriously though? He's not that bad when he's on his game.

He'll do great in a puck possession system.

Gonna leave this up as confirmed for now, but word I'm seeing right now is it's close but maybe not quite done. Strickland is rather famous for jumping the gun on things like this. Remember Chris Pronger for Jack Johnson?

Blues journalist says he signed, Wings journalist says otherwise and that there negotiating and he hasn't actually been signed.

Isn't it great that Carlo's gif takes place at the Joe? Every home game will be a field day!

A best of Colaiacovo montage:

Good thing they're teammates now.

It's also a good thing he doesn't have to defend against Datsyuk anymore.

Mr. Glass

Such a brutal hitter that he hurts himself.

And that about finishes it.

The Wings patch up their defense with a guy who can produce points, but is pretty fragile. Expect a lot of injuries, but good production when healthy.

Interesting that Ian Cole has been valued higher than Colaiacovo by the Blues. Let's see how that will play out in the season.

Im going to go out on a limb and say Calgary isn't going to trade Bouwmeester. And so Detroit signed Coliacovo

It's a shame Calgary didn't decide to go into rebuild mode, between Kipper, Iginla and JBo, several teams could have added some significant pieces with no obvious effect on the Flames (all things considered).

I thought Ian White was a great signing by the Wings last year, but Carlo, I don't know. The guy is just clumsy, and always an injury waiting to happen.
