That's not what he is asking. Yes they could extend the current CBA one year but the owners don't want to do that especially since the NHLPA didn't even start talks until well after the season was over.
Check out the CBA status thread, the NHLPA is getting hammered. Everyone is now just realize the NHLPA has no intent on changing anything or negotiating. They want 57% and they want it to go up to 59%.
And they did count the last one as an accrued season, so if they did it again it would be an issue for Ribeiro and similar guys. Although if it gets that far then there are bigger things to be angry about, I'd think.
