i dont think hammer or leddy could get the hawks a legit #2 c on their own. a lot of the proposals I see from hawks fans have them being very over valued. While there are teams that need help on D and would love to get these guys, they aren't gunna offer up a Briere, Plekanec, Pavelski or Grabovski for one aforementioned guy alone. I'd gladly take a top tier prospect thats almost ready to hit the nhl for cheap over someone that just fills the spot. Look at the "value of" thread and see what people view as "fair value". its guys like Liach, connolly, bozac, etc.
by the same token I condone going after Bernier or Neuvirth over Louongo or Kiprusoff. Like the C's that we'd likely be offered in return, they are going to soon be on the back half of their careers and while it may take a year or 2 for them to come into their own as nhl-ers it will be much more beneficial in the long run.
Thats just my take on it though
