My gf has agreed to go half on a goalie chest protector. However I'm not sure what I want. I'm looking for one that isn't too cheap that you feel every shot, but I don't want to spend 500 dollars. I'm not all star goalie.
Which type protects well and won't cost a ton ? Online shippin isn't a problem as that's what I do anyways for goalie equipment.
Simmons is a great pad for those looking to save money. Comparable quality to the "Big" Names at a much cheaper price. My entire set of pads was purchased directly from them and I paid about 3 grand less than all my friends who went with Vaughn/RBK

I'm a Simmons guy for all of my gear, including sticks. About to order a backup glove and blocker. Just great Canadian made gear for the money.

I wish you lived in my area. I have a brand new Reebok C/A protector to sell. Bought it online on clearance. Measured and everything but i fell right on the line between a M and a L. Bought the large and its too big for me.

That's my problem, too. I've tried on a chest protector in Ottawa. The large was too big and the medium seemed like it might be too small. Reebok and on sale for about 140, but they didn't have the special one that was that price. Only the same kind, but a different colour that was 240.
These are great suggestions.
This chest protector is the last thing I need (though maybe a new pair of pants) and I'll be ready for winter hockey. It's a birthday gift, too.
Does this one look like it would be relatively safe ?
I know jack about goalie equipment but always wanted to be one.
Customers might be nuts for this, though.
I am going to burst your bubble right off the top. Bauer doesn't allow its product to be shipped from USA to Canada. So you can forget about buying anything bauer online. If you want Bauer you will need to pay rip off prices they charge in Canada.

in that case, go with simmons, you can get one custom made with medium arms and large chest, or vice versa, and you will still be within your budget.
give them a call and mention GSBB and you might get a good discount too!

I can vouch for the Sherwood chesty, most of sherwood's T95 line is nearly on par with pro protection, they are slightly less than pro gear but better than almost all the senior lines on the market.

Bauer is weird. Goalie monkey doesn't allow Bauer to be shipped, but does allow Vaughn. However, discount goalie can allow Bauer to be shipped, but not Vaughn.
Shipping from the states is around 30 dollars and I'd probably have to pay 30-50 dollars in duty fees again. I've done business with both Goalie monkey and discount goalie. Both great places and great communication, just the duty fees suck ass.
The Simmons one, since I can customize it is great.
I've come down to a Simmons one and these 2. Both from Pro hockey life in Ottawa. Shipping could potentially be free since I live an hour away.

Once again, thanks for the help, guys! (and any gals)
the first link is the intermediate size, hence the low price, a SR sized 11k will be upwards of 400 dollars for sure.
the 2nd link is the reebok pII chesty, its definitely very good protection, but i heard the mobility of the chesty is not as good as the norm out there. that said, if you play a standard butter fly positioning style then you are more than okay with this chesty
if you plan on shipping with goaliemonkey or another store from the states, make sure you go with USPS shipping as they have duty fees included in their shipping rates, it will end up being cheaper than UPS for sure, i know from experience, haha
Check ebay. I picked up a Vaughn 7500 barely used two years ago for 100.00. There are deals out there to be found. Check GSBB for reviews on the gear and be sure to check model numbers, as hank pointed out one was an intermediate and may not be safe for certain levels of play.
I have a Reebok P2 Chest size large if you are interested. I used it about a season. Its too large and its a blocking style chesty. Arms are bombproof on this thing, thought about taking them off and putting them on my vaughn..but anyways, let me know if your interested, I could give it away for a good price to a goalie in need. I got too much gear anyways. Edit: I forgot I have Reebok(L) and McKenney(M) pants too.lol..
$330 for a pro level c/a. Very protective, not bulky and extremely mobile right out of the box.
I can not say this any better, you will be very very hard pressed to find a better unit for the price. grate guys to deal with. and yes go and join up at gsbb and you should get a discount. they are grate people and grate product.

Going to Ottawa this weekend to pro hockey life with a guy who says he can get me a discount. Not sure how, but it better not be like a 5 dollar discount
If he can't then I'll probably get the Simmons one.
How long should it take to break in a chest protector ?
