If there is a season, opportunistic defense and scoring by committee will have to be our forte. By opportunistic defense, I refer to limiting mistakes. Not a trap, but a defense conscious system. All a matter of execution. While we don't have a "#1 C", having 3 #2C's (all at different tiers) will be our only option.
* Lombardi sent on fishing trip in parts unknown. I actually like the guy, I'd just rather have Connolly play, and Kadri deserves a spot this year. An injury kept him out from being on the team in training camp. IMO that's a solid top-9, lots of scoring depth, and somewhat defensively responsible. If we need to protect a lead late, no reason to not shift McClement/Steckel/Kulemin up. The only part I don't like is MacArthur on the 3rd, so maybe him and Kadri will switch. I'm sure Frattin will be in the mix too once he heals.
Shot blocking and positioning is going to be huge this year if we want to sniff playoffs, because we can't depend on Reimer to steal games in the way that a Jonathan Quick or Ryan Miller does.
Oh boy do I ever miss having Sundin. I think after the CBA is settled, Burke will be going after a big #1C. As he has said many times, expect our top 6 to get bigger before the season starts and expect him to be addressing the center position. All is quiet now because of the CBA talks.
1st 2014 + Kadri + Blacker + Bozak/Colborne for Getzlaf
Don't forget, Getzlaf has a year left on his contract and is coming off a bad season (to his standards), so his value isn't as high as many believe. Additionally, Anaheim has been known for having financial issues, and both GMs are good friends.
He should fire his agent. What a steal for Washington.
The new CBA will may also have a rollback, making the later years of the deal (salary gets a one-time hit but cap rises) an even better deal.
Maybe he wants to win? Not everyone is going to take market value if they want to stay with a certain team. He took a deal to stay with Ovechkin and to stay in Washington.
No thanks, we'll just sign Getzlaf and Perry on July 1st
If those 2 leave Anaheim and go to the same team, in my opinion they will be much better acquisitions for a team than this years Parise + Suter. If they do, NHL would start to become kind of similar to the NBA.

Don't care as long as we get them, they're best friends so that makes it more likely they sign together. But, if they do sign together somewhere else, I'll hate them and the team with a passion. Imagine if they both go to a cup contending team ie. Pittsburgh. Even if Perry goes to the Pens I'll hate him, a lot.

Doubt it. Penguins have far too much cap into their forwards as it is.. We can only hope Perry wants to play in Ontario and Getzlaf just wants to play with him.

We can also hope they want to play for the management they won a cup with (Burke + Carlyle). Other than the whole Ontario thing though we got nothing haha.

Pretty much. Makes me worry that Ottawa could look like a good option for Perry (Karlsson, Spezza, etc.)

Burke + Carlyle won them a cup, buds with Lupul, Perry would "love" to play here according to a poster who spoke to his cousin, and we can give them a lot of money.
Sigh, too bad we're the Leafs. My gut says they'll re-sign.

One good thing thought about Toronto is Perry played his junior hockey in London and I believe he spends his summers in London as well. London is much closer to Toronto than it is to Ottawa. London and Ottawa are also around the same distance from Peterborough (his hometown) so that is basically a wash. All this speculation and we don't even know if he wants to play in Ontario, I love it

I don't think he's gonna win there, not in its current configuration atleast
should pick up Zach Boychuk, Michal Haley or Justin Peters
Maybe to Boychuk, no way to Haley we'd have to keep him up on the Leafs and there's no room for him. No thanks to Peters either, AHL starting level goalie and we already have Scrivens, Owuya, and Rynnas.

I think we said the same thing about Cammalleri when he was UFA, hometown boy and what not. And the reason he didn't sign in TO(subject to argument, just a rumour i'd heard) was because he spent his summers there and didn't want to live there year round.
Not saying Perry would feel the same way, but something to think about when doing the whole "come home" UFA thing.
