You'd have to put slightly more on year 1 than on year 2 so that the total doesn't drop by more than half to year 3, but otherwise year.

I'd go something like this:

Year 1: $1M salary, $9M signing bonus
Year 2: $3M salary, $5M signing bonus
Year 3 - 4: $4M salary
Years 5-6: $2M Salary
Years 7-8: $1M Salary

Same dollar value you had, but the big signing bonus pays him now before the lockout, and the year 1-2 distribution makes it a legal contract.

Ideally if you're doing 8 years, it's down at $3.5M cap hit or so.

Yeah, I'd be pretty choked if Gillis did that.

Interesting. I wonder what the Leafs would offer? Chicago?

That's just awful. There's no way I'd want to pay Burrows 4mil per season until he was 40 years old. Players like Burrows often lose their speed by 35 and become more 3rd/4th line character guys, do you want to pay 4mil for such a player? Players like Burrows do not get retirement contracts at the age of 32. I wouldn't go for more than a 4 year deal unless it drastically reduced the cap hit, and even then I'd only go 5 years.

Yr 1: 6.5mil (5.5mil as signing bonus)
Yr 2: 3.5mil
Yr 3: 3mil
Yr 4: 3mil

I think a deal like that would be good for both sides. Burrows gets a big pay day at the start of the contract, and makes 50% more than he currently does for the remaining 3 years. The contract expires when he's 36, if he can still play he'll likely get locked in to another 2 year contract. If he wanted to tack another year on at 1.5mil or so to reduce the cap hit down to 3.5mil then I'd be fine with that also.

Maybe Gillis thinks this team could use a different look. Obviously burrows is clutch but he's not worth 5+ million. If we sign Doan we might as well trade him with Luongo and get another significant piece or pieces. I wouldn't mind getting a couple blue chip prospects in here. Gillis always talks about the detorit mold. Always being a contender. If we can get two more blue chippers we'd be looking pretty for the next 10 years. That's for sure. Get lucky one of these years and win a cup. We can't eait till our assets diminish and have to overpay to keep them. It's a factory here.

If Gillis is looking for a switch then maybe he should be trading the players that don't perform.. Booth, Raymond, etc.

Trading Burrows would just be idiotic. And Panther fans would laugh at the idea of Gudbranson + Bjugstad as I am doing now.

I think Booth is getting the benefit of the doubt for this season at least, and until we have an upgrade it would be dumb to get rid of them.
I totally agree that the Panthers would laugh, especially with Burr going into UFA

The clock is ticking - Burrows and #Canucks have till midnight tomorrow to strike deal. No talks allowed in a lockout.
C'mon, Burr! Get it done!

Here's the plan for today:

- Burrows signs extension
- Edler follows suit
- Doan inks a contract with Vancouver
- PA reaches midnight agreement with league

If even just the first 3 of those things happen I'll be ecstatic. Then as long as we have hockey by Jan 1 (Kesler should be ready for a full camp by then) I'm liking our chances.

Ditto. It's amazing how much is going down today - we've had weeks of virtually nothing, and now it's like a mini-deadline/UFA frenzy.

I don't think my liver could handle the celebatory drinking that I would be doing. I haven't warmed it up enough.

I agree giving him the benefit of the doubt I'm just saying trading the one player that has actually come up big for us would be stupid.

Crossing my fingers! I would also like that they sign Edler. Would prefer to sign him now with the current make up of the CBA as we could get him a 7-8 year contract. Don't know if that will be an option when they agree to the next CBA.

Yeah it is pretty funny how quiet the seasons been and now everyone is signing extensions. Which is a lot more than what we had the last couple of months.

Hoping for the following:

Doan signing
Burrows extension
Edler extension
CBA agreement
Luongo trade (we win or fair trade.)
