You play with fire enough, youll get burned. Connolly seems to be out from under the injury bug. You draft another injured player and well....

Or you play with fire enough and the worst you get is a bruise. I'll take that. They're just being overly cautious. We shouldn't be alarmed yet.

Jenner's a mean hitter too.

"It's always in the back of your mind," said Koekkoek, whom the Lightning last summer drafted 10th overall. "But it's good news today so it's no big deal."

"It's not a serious thing, so I'm happy about that," Koekkoek said. "Obviously, it's tough. I worked so hard to get it back. But this isn't affecting (the surgical repair) at all."

"He had shoulder surgery and had it repaired," Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said. "Sometimes you've got to get used to getting banged around and get that strength back. He'll be all right in the long run."

Considering his history and the fact that it was an exhibition game, precaution seemed appropiate.

With a deep muscle bruise? I buy it. It'a a painful injury and they aren't going to take any chances with that shoulder, especially not in a game they were getting their butts kicked in.

Our 2 way contract guys can apparently be sent down now, so our contribution to Syracuse might look something like this:

Killorn-Johnson-Conacher
Brown-Namestnikov-Connolly
Palat-Gauthier-Panik
Labrie-Angelidis-Wyman

Barberio-Gudas
Korobov-Taormina
Aulie-Oberg
Milan

Tokarski
Helenius

Probably forgot 1 or 2. Lots of RW, so someone likely has to switch to LW. That looks like a great AHL lineup, only question is if the 2nd line forwards come through, which they should.

Syracuse general manager Julien BriseBois said the Lightning organization has drawn up a couple of different scenarios depending upon how NHL CBA negotiations progess.

BriseBois said if there is no lockout, camp would open in Syracuse on Oct. 1. The Crunch would then leave for its preseason games in Newfoundland the next day. BriseBois said he did not know if coach Jon Cooper would schedule a practice here on Oct. 1.

If there is a lockout, camp would open here on Sept. 28. That would allow time for practices in the War Memorial before the Newfoundland trip.

BriseBois said some of the Lightning coaching staff may visit Syracuse during a lockout, but only to watch how things are going and not coach the Crunch.
Quote:
BriseBois said the team has not decided who will be put on waivers during the window.
Players on two-way deals who require NHL waivers
Labrie, Angelidis, Wyman, Oberg, Taormina, Aulie

Players on AHL deals who do not require waivers
Nielson, Langelier-Parent, Cote, Nightengale, Devos

Players on two-way deals who do not require waivers

Barberio, Johnson, Panik, Namestnikov, Gauthier, Paquette, Connolly, Killorn, Hutchings, Gudas, Korobov, Landry, Milan, Helenius, Tokarski, Nagle, Brown, Conacher

Koekkoek ready to roll

Slater Koekkoek will be ready for the Petes season opener Thursday, says Petes GM Dave Reid.

Koekkoek suffered a deep upper body bruise in the Petes second exhibition game. He practised in the afternoon with the players not dressed for Thursday’s final pre-season game and was taking slapshots and had full range of motion.

The Petes originally feared the worst when Koekkoek, who had shoulder surgery in January and missed the end of last season, left his first game back after taking a hit from Oshawa's Boone Jenner. Medical tests showed no damage to the surgical repair.

Learning how to avoid taking hits is definitely an important skill to master if one wants to have a long career. No one is better at not getting hit than Martin SL. At training camp, maybe Marty can share the tips he's learned over the years with the kids who have had injury problems recently like Koekkoek, Richard, Kucherov, etc... oh wait, there isn't going to be a training camp....well, a phone call will do. Just a thought.

We have a lot of small guys who appear to be on the way to becoming good NHLers, maybe too many. What should we do with these guys if they continue to improve. I doubt we can keep them all long term.

5'10" Brown
5'10" Gusev
5'9" Johnson
5'9" Peca
5'8" Conacher

We have some time yet, as Peca still has 3 years of college and Gusev is still in Russia... Not making a point here, just thinking out loud.

I think it's too optimistic to think that all kids pan out, but if they do, well it's a nice problem to have imo.

Was behind Lindback, Garon, Tokarski, and Helenius on the depth chart. Playing in the ECHL wouldn't have been good for his development so the Lightning asked him to play overseas which has been a good move so far.

Janus needed more ice time and in a more competitive league than ECHL. Tokarski and Helenius will be splitting it in Syracuse, does no good for Janus' development for him to just sit around. Helenius has a 2-way contract for this year and 1-way for the next.

Because Riku Helenius returned from Europe and was signed to a two-year deal (1st year: two-way, 2nd year: one-way). With Garon and Lindback in Tampa and Tokarski and Helenius in AHL Syracuse, Europe was his best choice (seems like it worked for Helenius, too).

He needed more playing time, which he wasn't going to get with Tokarski ahead of him in the AHL. And then when Helenius came back, they assessed Janus would be behind both of them on the depth chart. But even without Riku, he needed to be a starter, and not be a backup, although the situation in Norfolk was more a 1A, 1B. He can play at a high level as a #1 for a KHL club in his home country, so it worked out great for him.

Night two in the OJHL saw the Burlington Cougars kick-off their season by honouring one of the OJHL's most successful alumni during the 2011-12 season in Cory Conacher.

lightning.nhl.com: Tyler Johnson looks to avoid sophomore slump after breakout rookie season
Quote:
“The second you take a moment off, there are 100 guys right behind you who are going to pass you,” he added. “I had a good year last year, but like every player trying to make it to the NHL one day, you always want more.”

Naturally, Johnson did more.

Following the Admirals’ deep playoff run that culminated in championship fashion, Johnson hooked up with renowned personal trainer Drew Buchkoski – he who is famous for his work with professional athletes in both the National Football League and Major League Baseball – to become stronger, as well as joined his former junior club, the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, to participate in summer workouts.

The result is that now just one week before Syracuse training camp opens, Johnson will arrive with 11 pounds of added muscle since the program started in early July, which he credits to Buchkoski’s specifically-tailored workout programs that focused heavily on bulking up in the weight room.

“I feel great, which can really boost your confidence going into camp just knowing that you’re going there a lot stronger and faster than you were a year ago,” Johnson said.
