Risky deal. As much as I love him, Burrows is a very poor natural skater and usually when these kind of players start declining their effectiveness go down fast. Burrows will be 35 when his last contract year begins and I'd say it's very much possible he won't be as effective of a player in the last 2 years than he is for the next 3 seasons. That being said he was a late bloomer so that could transition to other end of his career aswell (meaning he won't start declining as early), at least I'm hoping that happens.
The big question is what happens with the Sedins in two years. Right now Burrows is on contract for 3 more years than the Sedins are. Could be troublesome aswell, as I expect most fans think Burrows needs to score 30 goals now to be worth his contract and let's face it, he won't get close to that number without the Sedins.

Burrows: $450k on 1st Canucks contract (2005-06), now $4.5 million. Lesson: You can accomplish anything, if you meet the right set of twins.
I wouldn't say it's bad at all. He'll be 36 by the time the contract expires, so it isn't like he'll be dead weight by then. It's a very very good deal.
Any player on the Canucks (not named Sedin) should not have a NTC

I was trying to type a response to this thread, but after reading yours I don't need to. Excellent post. It's nice to read posts that make sense.

One day Gilman will go on Big Brother, and he will somehow convince everyone in the house to give up and give him the money on day one.
He's right, Burr has a short, choppy stride and rows a boat while skating. Not very poor, but he isn't a great skater.
I would say most of us have watched him pull away from defenders on the PK enough to no that this isn't the case. He might be a little unconventional in his stride, but he gets great acceleration and a great top speed.

It is very possible that EVERY NHL PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE may lose some effectiveness nearing the end of their deals. Too many fans think far too hard about these things and seem desperate to nitpick.
Sit back, relax and enjoy. 2017 doesn't matter today.
Lol, yes, its very, very bad. Pretty much screws the team forever.
Let's look at this logically.
Over the next season or two the Canucks continue along the same path as before: winning President's trophies, but losing out in the playoffs. There is no evidence to indicate any other expectation.
Next year, or the year after, one of the Canucks younger talents (Jensen) develops to the level where he can contribute in the top 6. Or, they sign Doan. Or ???
Burrows (who has significant value on the trade market) could be moved for a piece the roster is missing. Oh no! Now he can't be traded!

Short and choppy is actually good for acceleration but limits top end speed and isn't very efficient. Most people on this board can't skate for a ****, how would they know?
