It would be idiotic for Del Zotto to accept $2m per for two years, IMO. He has to get more than that.

why though?
he played all of what, 10m average in the playoffs when we needed him most?
he played TERRIBLE hockey his sophomore year. his rookie season was good. this season was good (but our entire team was) up until the playoffs.
it's not like he is going to be playing top pairing(possibly not even top 4!) minutes. he's not a gamebreaker. doesn't help our PP anymore than any other defenseman.
he's a good player, but come on. what do you honestly think he deserves, 4m!? no ******* way. 2-2.5m or send him packing. we want him, but he's not worth 4m. not 3m. probably wouldn't give him 2.5. let him get some consistency before we give him those numbers.
del zotto wants to be here. no doubt in my mind we can get him for under 3. we're probably the best competitor in the league. a cup is worth $2m to these kids.

He averaged 21:39 in the playoffs and has better numbers than Carlsson, who is coming off a -15 season. Del Zotto has improved his game drastically since his sophomore slump.
yeah, MDZ had a phenomenal playoffs up until the NJD series...when his granmother fell ill and eventually passed away his play really dipped. id give anyone a pass over that.

You can't! These guys are athletes, and get paid to play no matter what!
The Rangers have offered DZ $2.5M per. Why is the discussion about $2M per?
Quote:
The Rangers are believed to have offered Del Zotto a two- or three-year contract in the neighborhood of $2.5 million per. The 22-year-old, fourth-year pro, who is coming off an entry level contract and whose limited systemic leverage is not likely to increase under the next collective bargaining agreement, is believed seeking a longer and more lucrative deal.
The Rangers want to see more from DZ before they commit major term and dollars to him. Sign the 2 year bridge contract and prove the Rangers made a mistake on not giving him a bigger contract. The Rangers will pay him if builds on his third season. DZ has no leverage right now. He was not eligible for salary arbitration. Nobody if arbitration will exist in the next CBA or if the current eligibility is changed. DZ has to sign before December 1 or he won't play this season. That is a rule in the current CBA. It will probably be in the next CBA. No holdouts. The Rangers won't give him a 1 year deal.
I'm not exactly on track with contracting without a CBA info so I have questions. Can contracts be signed without CBA? and for DZ's presumably less than 4 years, 2.5M +/- .25M contract, would a new CBA with strict contract rules affect his deal that much?

No contracts will be signed without a CBA in place.
Del Zotto will never see that type of money, book it!
He would easily see $5M on the open market, so I'm not exactly sure what you're thinking here...he'd easily get that on a longer term contract right now (the $3.9M).
But you're one of those people that irrationally rags on MDZ, so I doubt you'll see the painfully objective truth.
People see a new shiny toy and immediately forget about the old one and its uses. Gaborik finally became our go-to guy last year, took responsibility, and became clutch (minus the playoffs where he was playing with a torn labrum).
Really? Pretty sure he carried us ofensively in 2009-10.
Not only is he inconsistent, he's very immature and his mental makeup is more fragile then Hemsky.
MDZ has elite talent, and he was excellent last year. He is 100% a top tier young defenseman and every bit a part of the Rangers core. But in an arbitration case he has very little going for him with his ups and downs.
