Excited

Having all these top flight players have to come to Norfolk will greatly erase the disappointment in losing last year's team. I can't wait for October 12 opening night!

What's the pre-season situation with AHL teams? Are there games or is it just a camp? Also, when will it begin?

Camp

Camp should start around September 27. There are 2 pre-season games against the Charlotte Checkers. The home game is October 6. Opening night for the regular season is October 12 against the Worcester Sharks (San Jose's AHL affiliate)

If the agreement is the same as the one last year with TB. Then the Ducks will be paying the players salaries whether they play NHL or AHL. The only thing that really changes is the AHL salaries are much lower cost to the owners. AHL contracts are normally anywhere from 65K to 105K for younger players. AHL veterans can sometimes pull down double that. Last years NHL minimum was 525K.

The lockout sux's for NHL fans, but it is a boon for us AHL fans. Looking forward to seeing who is in an Admirals sweater. At least for the beginning of the season.
GO ADMIRALS!

Ducks put Jordan Hendry on waivers today. The two on waivers yesterday have cleared

It could just as easily be a terrible thing for his development. If he's too good for the AHL, how will it benefit him to effectively waste a year?

Whatever happens, Fowler needs to be playing somewhere, he can't afford to lose a year of development at 20 years old. Personally I think he's miles too good for the AHL and hope he signs overseas somewhere.

Remember all the other clubs are going to have most of their eligible players down in the AHL also. Might be more competition than you think.

But i am bias, want to watch as many good players as i can in Norfolk.

Yeah they will but Fowler was playing top pairing minutes in the NHL at age 20. No offense to the other teams top prospects who will be sent down but playing in the AHL will be a huge step backwards in terms of quality of competition. Overseas leagues are going to beef up much more than the AHL will with all of the NHL guys trying to find work.

Yeah I think Fowler's probably too good even for a beefed up AHL. But the good thing is he might get more PK duty. So maybe that's a plus.

Playing top line minutes with another top D player. He should get some what of a workout covering for less experienced AHL D-man. Will most likely get more special teams minutes. PK and running the point on PP.

Yeah but again, no offense to the quality of AHL players but he will have gone from matching up against the likes of Thornton, Kopitar, Datsyuk, Benn etc to matching up against Alex Giroux, Chris Bourque, Keith Aucoin etc. Fowler is simply too good for the AHL . Ideally he would have been on the second pairing last season but despite the bad +/- wasn't completely out of place in a top pairing role.

I hope so, it's crucial that he keeps playing, losing a year of development at 20 years old would not be the best thing for him.

Edit: Lindholm isn't on the list, they must have more moves to announce.

Fowler and Lindholm to Rogle? That might make some sense. It is odd that Lindholm isn't listed.

Even if Lindholm isn't in Norfolk, the lineup is still absolutely stacked.

Maroon
Holland
Palmieri
Etem
DSP
Wagner
McMillan
Lasch
Elkins
Sexton
Mitchell
Brittain
Kennedy

Vatanen
Smaby
Clark
Guenin
Hendry

Andersen
JDD
Bobkov

I guess the other defensemen will be on AHL only deals. Has Norfolk officially signed anyone to AHL contracts yet?

The Admirals don't sign players per say. Players may only have an AHL contract, but all players are signed by and salaries pay by the Ducks.

The Admirals roster should be very good for as long as the lockout continues.

Doesn't mean anything. Ducks don't want to expose Fowler to waivers claim. He is still on his ELC, but has played over 160 NHL games which makes him waiver eligible. Special lockout waivers deal is only for reentry waivers.

I believe SEL has forbidden players to sign short-term deals.

But I'm sure that won't count for Lindholm.

"Ducks assign Hampus Lindholm and Jordan Hendry to AHL Norfolk. Hendry cleared waivers."

EDIT: Beat to it.

Cameron Fowler has played a total of 158 games just missing the 160 games played cut off.
