So there's 50 balls from my count in total. Each ball has a 2% chance of being pick. Team with most balls is Columbus with 5, so 10% chance to win.

But really its just a 90% chance to lose. If this is the way they draft this year, its really a crapshoot, for all we know, Detroit could replace Lidstrom with Jones, Nashville replace Suter, NJ could offset the loss of Parise with Mckinnon, Pittsburgh could add another elite C to their arsenal, Toronto could finally have a #1C, Anahiem could finally get a 1B, Edmonton could get their #1 D man, Cbus can get another franchise player, the list goes on.

Its anybodies game.

Who knows, Columbus could have the same story as Pittsburgh, lost 1st overall which was a russian, end up with 1st pick during lockout and take the kid from Nova Scotia.

I'm just more bitter than usual of late 'cause for way too many people, the solution to "we might all lose hockey for a while!" is "just take away hockey forever for these other second-class fans, they won't miss it."
I actually think CBJ has pretty good fans. Horrible management and scouting. But the fans have stuck around exceptionally well for how pathetic the franchise has been. I think they've been as loyal as any market would be outside of a very select few.

One thing is for sure: if there is an actual lottery Columbus should do pretty well with 3 1sts compared to everyones 1

Image if NYR, LA and CBJ were the top-3 picks. Talk about an instant rebuild

The only debate would be who'd go third overall. MacKinnon, Jones and... Shinkaruk?

Not really. As previously stated, if such a lottery follows the same format as 2005, we end up with a 10% chance of getting the 1st overall - as opposed to 50/50 this past year.

And lottery luck and the Blue Jackets are concepts that have never met.

They'll get 3 picks in what seems to be a very deep draft.

Even if they don't draft top 5, they'll get some good players to speed up the rebuild process.

Seth Jones on the Canucks. Our first ever franchise defenseman. Make it happen, Bettman.(Obviously I do not want nor endorse a lockout, BUT if it were inevitable...)

What happens to the NHL Draft 2012/2013 if the lockout wipes out the entire season?

How is the placements of the draft determined if there is a lock out for the whole year (I hope it doesn't go that far). Which team picks in what position? Based on the previous year?

I would assume they have the same system used for the 2005 Draft where teams get a certin number of balls based on how many times they made the Playoffs, how many times they won the 1st overall pick and how many times in a row they missed the Playoffs. So a team like the Leafs would have one of the best chances at the #1 pick and I can't see what other system they could use to determine the 2013 Draft order.

Detroit gets to pick 1st overall because Lidstrom retired and the whole realignment screwjob.

How many more threads on this do we need? No one knows what would happen, but likely would be something close to 2005 lottery.

I hope they change the system so that the teams that sucked last year have a better chance at winning. Not only if you sucked 2 or 3 years in a row.

So teams that already got early picks should be entitled to more early picks?

Every team should have the same number of chances to win 1st overall.

The Oilers need a defenseman 1st overall to compliment all the forwards
