Over-payment, but the contract is not super long. OK, overall.

Everything depends on the new CBA. We no longer have a valid context in which to judge contracts.

Would have liked to see some sort of a discount but it's only 3 years so that makes it a little easier to accept.

Since when does validity matter on HF?

Too much but I can deal with it for this term. I would have thought he'd get $5.25-5.5 million over 4 or 5 years, so the exchange of $500k of cap hit for a year or two on the term isn't so bad I guess.

The Bruins really don't have any players that are glaringly overpaid so it's not that bad.

Too high, but good term. His style does not want you to sign him for too long of a deal. He's going to break down at a young age.

Lucic getting paid more then Seguin?

Seems like an awful lot for a guy who in 5 seasons in the NHL averages 72gp 18g 24a 42pts per season.

I disagree Roger. He's not fast enough to play that super reckless style like Wendall Clark. He's more like a bull dozer.

What's the point of season point averages when you have a career path like Lucic has? Maybe near identical points in back-to-back seasons would be more telling?

Slight overpayment. 5-5.5 would have been more appropriate IMO. Also curious about the term - why not get a longer term extension done before they potentially limit contract terms? Why did a deal like this need to get done before the lockout rather than after it?

Decent signing, bit much and low term but he's a very useful player.

I think it's an overpayment...but here come the stat nerds. Guys like Lucic are paid on more than simply stats.

That's not really fair. Kid has played in the NHL since he was 18.
He's just reaching his peak.

Has the most amount of goals for the past two years on a contending team playing well under the usual amount of minutes a top line scorer gets

Top three in points on the Bruins during that same span

Leads the team in hits since his rookie year

One of the best young fighters in the league

Growing league wide reputation and recognition: voted by his peers as toughest forward and second toughest forward to play against, only Datsyuk was higher

Top 10 jersey sales since his sophomore year

Epitomizes Bruins tradition and a direct link in style to a time that Bruins fans recognize as the glory days of the team.

Best pure power forward in the league.

There's no question about it, he's worth every penny. Some people are too clueless to see it.

That might have to do with Seguin being 20 years old....

I really like that the Bruins extended him, but I also thought he'd take a discount, since he was overpaid on his last contact (based on potential). He's obviously lived up to that potential the last 2 years though. I was hoping for 5-5.5.

Definitely overpayment and I am a little surprised that Lucic would push the envelope to get the most money possible for a team that loves him so much when a discount could have easily been taken.

Still, Lucic is someone we cannot afford to lose and as such at least I can be happy he's been extended. Even if I don't like the contract itself.

Slight over payment. 5-5.5 would make more sense.

Lucic is one of best forwards in the game, and has a skill set that is rarely seen now a days.

Intimidators/ fighters that can pot 30 goals in a season are a rare breed. Lucic is among the best fighters in the game if not the best and his willingness to fight and intimate the opposition is always a concern. His arrogance on the ice is a result of no one willing to step up to him and call him out. The acquisition of Steve Ott to buffalo is because of lucic. That says alot about a player.

Many players in todays game if they dont put up points dont help you win. Lucic does not have to put up points to have an impact on the game.

at 6 mill he is worth every penny. Id much rather have a milan lucic at 6 mill than a Rick Nash at 7 mill plus.

No he is no where near the best forwards in the game and no he is not one of the best fighters in the league...

If Lucic doesn't put up points he's a 4th liner making 6 million a year.

overpayment, but what are you going to do? If Lucic demands 6 the bruins are going to overpay (and seriously, any team would give alot more to Lucic to get him on their team) or argue with his agent for a while, and that always goes well.

Probably a top 10 fighter and voted by his peers as the toughest player in the league.

And I have no idea what your last statement means. If Crosby doesn't put up points, he's a 4th liner making 8 million a year.
