No reason for either side to go for more than that, IMO.

Year 1 is $2.5625M and Year 2 is $3.0625, according to John Vogl. He's been wrong before, so I'll wait to update the title.

$2.8125 cap hit. weird.

edit: Kevin Allen posts same thing.

Not enough of a sample size to sign him longer. I like this contract.

Good cap figure - would've preferred longer term.

Good or bad? Vanek, Ennis, Pominville, and Miller all unsigned the same year.

Darcy will probably re-sign the people he wants before that happens. I can't see Pominville making it to FA.

I like it, it gives a chance for Ennis to prove himself as a big time player, if he is then I have no problems paying him what he wants, if he isn't then we can decide what to do then.

Great deal. I'm glad Regier held out and waited. He likes to sign guys coming off their ELC to a short-term deal so he has another crack at them as an RFA. If Ennis proves more in the next two years, they can then lock him up for longer term at a higher cap hit (and buy some UFA years). Myers is the only guy I can think of that Regier locked up long term coming off an ECL.

Yep. Myers proved himself to be key contributor and a potential franchise defenseman very early, so locking him up for that kind of term and money made sense. Ennis has high upside but he hasn't shown enough yet to warrant a long extension like that. He'll have an opportunity to over the next 2 years, and if he does, then he cashes in and we lock up a dynamic young scorer. If he doesn't, it's no biggie since we're not committed to him for forever.

Great contract, with all the laughable contracts handed out to RFAs similiar in production to Ennis, I'm ecstatic. He will still be a RFA and we can give him a long term deal then. So glad to see a traditional 2nd contract for once instead of these dumb long term deals given after the ELC which has attributed to the very problems of this league and the impending lockout.

2 years is perfect. Assuming the new CBA doesn't do something stupid with RFA rules, it keeps him RFA, give us cap flexibility these two years, and we'll have the big contracts (Vanek, Pominville, Miller) done by the time his next one comes up, meaning we'll have an easier time clearing space for a bigger deal should it be warranted.

Fantastic job done by Darcy, though with the CBA expiring today, I wonder if there will be an issue with processing it through the league office in time. I hope the fax machine is working.

(Then again, given the state of our local media, I would not be surprised if they got the stuff in yesterday and our great journalists didn't bother to inquire and find out)...

Much more of a conventional second contract. Nice.
