Oilerrrr I Mean Barons '12-13 Thread

'12-13 GDT Threads:
Games 1 and 2 @ Lake Erie, 2-1 loss and 3-2 win
Game 3 Vs. San Antonio, 5-2 Barons win
Game 4 Vs. Lake Erie, Barons lose 5-3

OKC Roster/Potential Roster

Forwards:
RNH
Hall?
Eberle
Paajarvi
Lander
Hartikainen
Pitlick
Hamilton
Martindale
Vande Velde
Cornet
Pelss
Abney
Tyrvainen
Rajala
Green
Byers
Arcobello
House

Defense:
J. Schultz
Fedun
Teubert
Marincin
Plante
Davidson
Ringwald
Potter?
Helmer?

Goaltenders:
Danis
Roy
Bunz

So it looks like for at least now Hall won't be sent to OKC, thankfully neither will Potter. IMO guys like Pelss, Rajala, Martindale. House, and Davidson are likely ticketed for Stockton along with one of Bunz or Roy.

Here's how I see it playing out.

Paajarvi-RNH-Eberle
Hartikainen-Arcobello-Pitlick
Byers-Lander-Tyrvainen
Hamilton/Cornet-Vande Velde-Abney/Grant (if he's still Barons property)

Teubert-J. Schultz
Plante-Fedun
Marincin-Helmer/other AHL vet

Danis
Roy

If Helmer is playing that means that we will have 5 RHD in our top 6. Marincin will be the only lefty. I don't recall if OKC retained Yeo's rights or not, but it'd sure help if we could add a top 4 quality LHD at the AHL level. Perhaps we'll see an AHL trade to shore that up? Davidson is the only other LHD that would be available if he's ready.

I just came to post the same thing. I'm excited but what are the chances that Eberle goes to Europe instead? The last I heard it sounded like he was leaning towards OKC but he might try Europe.

I think Byers and Green figure in there somewhere too

RNH going down to OKC after scoring 52 points reminds me of Spezza joining the Birmingham Senators during the '04 lockout after scoring 55 points with Ottawa in 03-04... but man... a guy like Eberle coming off a 76 point NHL season playing in the AHL? Boggles the mind.

Damn, I forgot Byers. Green IMO will be in and out of the lineup unless Hamilton hasn't shown much progress from last year. It will be a delicate balance of development though. We need to develop guys like Hamilton more so than we need to play Green. Byers toughness is needed though so he will play. We could see one of Hamilton or Cornet in Stockton as well as it serves neither much purpose to be riding the pine. Perhaps we see Cornet traded for that LHD?

Actually didn't even know Rajala was an option, thought he'd just be playing for Ilves again.

till then:

MPS - RNH - Eberle
Byers - Arcobello - Pitlick
Cornet - Lander - Hartikainen
Hamilton - Vande Velde - House

Tyrvainen/Abney/Pelss/Martindale and Toni friggen Rajala?

Tuebert - Schultz
Fedun - Marincin
Plante - Davidson

Danis/Roy/Bunz

edit: forgot Green, yeesh.
I was surprised when I saw his name. Curious to see if he shows up and if so how he looks on the ice with everybody else.

So, point predictions, assuming a full AHL season?

RNH 80
Eberle 80-90
Paajarvi 50

Well Plante, Fedun, J. Schultz, and Teubert aren't exactly 20 year old's. I agree that we could use a veteran presence for Marincin though since the other 4 should be our top 4D.

Paajarvi was on pace for 59 points last year, meanwhile this year playing with these guys he gets considerably less? In the playoffs he was on a 63 point pace.

My guess would be 110+ points for Eberle and RNH and probably 90+ points for Paajarvi assuming that he's on their line.

They'd probably put someone more physical on LW for Eberle and RNH, meaning Paajarvi would get 2nd line ice time. As for 110+ points, I'm not sure. Even the best AHL players who are later NHL stars have trouble reaching that plateau. And the level of competition as a whole in the AHL will be better during the lockout because every team is sending down some good players.

If we go well into October, one would assume that LWer is Taylor Hall.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...030012005.html

The difference is that they are already NHL stars. The AHL doesn't often see guys that are at this level of play, the last time you can see what Spezza did and he didn't have a RNH or Eberle flanking him. Paajarvi will be on the top line, he has gotten bigger and stronger this offseason and it sounds like he has worked on his mental game as well. IMO the person that could benefit the most from the lockout is Paajarvi.

The last time that I recall a duo or trio as dominant as ours would be was with Getzlaf, Perry, and Penner. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...002622006.html

Perry 19gp. 16-18-34
Getzlaf 17gp. 8-25-33
Penner 57gp. 39-45-84

I might actually be selling them short with the 110+ point mark. Yes there will be other NHLers there but few are anywhere near the quality of these 2 offensively. Off the top of my head maybe Seguin and Skinner?

Or perhaps there's not a better time to try the Hall at center experiment? IMO if his shoulder is 100% that is the way to go. It costs us nothing in the NHL standings and he'll get tons of ice time to get used to playing center again.

Well I don't see Rajala's name on Ilves' roster and I found this also:

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...eason-preview/

"Rajala had not re-signed with Ilves as of early August and his status is up in the air."

It also increases the risk he'll get injured because he won't be used to the angles and positioning.

It's also harder on the shoulders to take faceoffs.

You either go forward with it or you don't. There's always a potential for things to happen in life it's either worth the risk or it's not. IMO there will be no better time than when he comes back to try it out.

Have someone else take the draws until his shoulder gets better, it has been done before.

So when does Barons training camp start?

The last two years it's started September 26th and 27th.

In a couple of weeks I believe. Eberle, Paajarvi, and Schultz were on a video on oilers.com and IIRC Eberle said in a couple of weeks.

Kind of pisses me off that Hall isn't going, he could Develop and do well there, plus he could add a Calder Cup to the resume, with a Memorial Cup.

Eberle & Nuge in the AHL = Gretzky & Kurri in the 80s.
