You would have to have the player claimed to be rid of the contract. You need to send him another player in the deal to make the trade work or clear a contract by waiving a player and having him claimed or a seperate deal. Players in the minors still count as contracts towards your limit

Daniel Sedin scores on a 2 on 1 with Kesler with 4.8 seconds left in overtime!

Canucks win 2-1.

I'm thinking that he might have to go unclaimed before you get rid of him?

Also, superstar Brett Lebda was brutally injured in the Jackets loss to the Canucks. He will be out for 22 games.
Columbus will never be able to recover.

Islanders' Report, October 23, 2012

Eberle and Tavares in 2009

For the better part of two days, the decrepit walls of Nassau County Memorial Coliseum seemed oddly quiet, as GM Jack Hoya, holed up in his office since Thursday, dodging falling ceiling tiles, feverishly hitting F5 on his vintage Tandy 2000 PC. When confirmation of the deal finally came Saturday afternoon, he could hardly contain his excitement.

Jordan Eberle is a New York Islander.

In the biggest trade in the organization's recent history, the Islanders sent 2012 1st round pick Griffin Reinhart and 2010 waiver pickup Michael Grabner to the Edmonton Oilers for Eberle and former 2nd round pick Martin Marincin. The towering LH Slokak defender is expected to report to Bridgeport of the AHL.

Hoya praised Grabner's contributions to the Islanders and wished him the best--"He'll get to play with some special players out there," he said." For Reinhart, the move promised a longer-than-expected stay in Edmonton, where he plays junior hockey for the Oil Kings.

But Eberle was the true prize. "You don't often get the chance to acquire a truly special player, and we believe that's what Jordan is," Hoya told Islanders Report. "You could say I was caught off-guard," the 22-year Regina native, who signed a six-year extension last month, admitted.

Asked to explain the move, Hoya noted that the promising development of superstar prospect Nail Yakupov and improved fitness of Ales Hemsky provided the Oilers with a wealth of talent at RW, but left them thin on the blue line. Reinhart, who was widely expected to return to Juniors this year, provides the Oilers with a potential franchise defenseman to pair with their trio of former top-draft picks.

For Hoya, letting go of Reinhart was difficult, and it may well leave the Islanders short-handed on the blue-line going forward. "We have some players who show promise," he told IR, "but I'm not sure we have that top defenseman in our system right now."

But that's a problem for another day. The acquisition of Eberle, who is expected in the line-up against the Toronto Maples Leafs on October 26, should bolster the Islanders' anemic offense. "After Jack, the the first phone call was from John Tavares." The two, who played together in 2009 for Canada's World Junior club, are expected to form a potent partnership for the next six years.

That's something all Islanders fans can look forward to. "It should put butts in the seats, that's for sure," Hoya admitted.

Maybe enough to upgrade that Tandy desktop.

Life has been happening lately. Feel free to hit me up with trade offers though.

So, if the league "officially" begins on Sept. 18, does that mean the first window "officially" ends 4 days later, on September 21?

I guess that means the next round of games doesn't start until... what, next Saturday?

Most likely im advancing on Tuesday so teams get their trades through and then we start. Theae first games won't count towards our twenty.

That makes sense.

I guess we'll just figure out how to deal with the logistics of teams that pass 20 games too early at that point?

For example, excluding these early games, my "20th" game of the year is Dec. 8 against the Flyers (26th game overall). Oddly, even though the Flyers only played 4 games during this opening period, they're "20th" game comes earlier, on Dec. 4. You would have to play 22 over the next few windows to get to the first of our home-and-home matchups in December.

I'm probably just gonna say X amount of periods for all teams. If you play 26 games (or whatever) so be it.

@TSNBobMcKenzie I'm hearing that the Flyers have started to look for first line talent to play along side Claude Giroux and continue to look for goaltending.

Kings have offered Flyers Mega-Deal, Key parts to SC Champions being thrown around. No word whether Flyers will accept.

@FakeDreger
Flyers considering moving Couturier, Pronger, Briere, Simmonds and others in order to make a splash. Looking for top talent and goaltending.

Is it just me, or is there no way to tell if your trade proposals have been rejected, or simply not addressed. Do we think this comes with the next window?

It isn't so much an issue in this league, since we sort of have to negotiate online anyway, in order to get HC's approval. But I've sent a bunch of other requests out in my other leagues, and whenever I check under "trade requests pending," there are no messages.

Am I dumb?

I agree the interface could be better. I assume when it advances we will actually be able to see responses though
