He is technically eligible to play in the KHL since he qualifies for one of the four rules but that's not the main reason. I think they should've tried locking him up for at least a few yrs anyways.

Why on Earth would the Jets be pressured to lock up Burmistrov? He's not an RFA now or a UFA after this season. He's unproven and probably would rather break out before signing anything long term after a sub 30 point season anyway. Makes no sense for either side to sign this summer.

Congrats to the Jets and their fans, locking him up long term to a reasonable deal = win.

Very nice deal. Kid is the face of the franchise and to have him locked up long term for under $5.5m a year is very good.

Great deal for the Jets. The OP should be specified as Evander Kane though.

this statement makes you look terrible.

Kane: 2nd contract

Lucic: 3rd contract ( 2nd contract was for under 4.1 on the cap hit )

Why do we have to pay Hall an Ebs more than all the other upper and coming youngens?

I don't think it's that big of a deal tbh. Neither gave the team a discount despite being given really nice term (and Hall's contract really should've been a bridge one) but it's not that big of a difference tbh. What would they have gotten even if they did take a discount, $5.25 or $5.5 M?

Devan Dubnyk getting $3.5 M despite having half a decent season in his NHL career on the other hand though...

All you have to do is take a look at the list of players who have scored 30 goals at Kane's age to realize that this contract is worth every penny.

Because you obviously have to pay a premium to get players to stay in Edmonton.
