Tor-Col

To Tor-Stastny

To Col-Bozak, Kadri, MacArthur and a future top 5 protected 1st.

Think this is a trade that's fair and both teams would be interested in?

I believe it has boiled down to Phaneuf or bust.

Phaneuf for Stastny? Sarcasm? Don't think Dion is ever going to be traded while Burke is here.

He's the only one on the Leafs roster the Avs want. Maybe you could persuade them to take Lupul, but the Leafs shouldn't trade him now that he's found his game with Kessel.

Stastny is a bgrade first line center and what the Leafs are giving is nothing close in my opinion.
Bozak could fight for a seocnd line center position, MacArthur could probably squeak onto the third line and that first rounder would not be a top five pick. JVR-Stas

Having Stastny, Kessel and JVR on one line would help Toronto out a lot. I don't think that they'd make it to the playoffs because I think their depth would be too weak, but still I don't think that they'd be a bottom five team. Maybe 8th-10th.

You forgot Kadri who has the potential to be every bit as good as Stastny.

every week there's a Stasnty to Toronto thread, and every week Leaf fans post the exact same thing. It's legitimately impressive at this point. I can set my watch to it. I predict the next Bozak+filler for Stastny thread will be September 25th at 4:22 PM. Quote me on it.

Potential doesn't mean much for the Avs. Why bother trading Statsny when he is that good already. Kadri needs time with no guarantee, while Statsny is already there.

No thanks, no interest in dealing the pick with our current roster, lottery protected or not. Stastny hasn't exactly impressed the last couple of years and I can't see him improving in Toronto. The Avs have a good thing going on with ROR and Duchene down the middle so I'd be interested in moving him if I were Sherman for some defensive help, especially at his price tag.

Irony is that the exact same thing was said about Luke Schenn not even a year ago.

I think that, if my count is current, this is the 25723894723047905th Statsny to Toronto thread, with the exact same garbage/spare parts going the other way. If it didn't work the first time, why would the OP think it would this time? The only way this will stop people is if we stop replying to this topic. And yes, I know I'm replying, but I'm more replying to the people that keep these topics alive more so than the OP.

No.

You can have Bozak, Blacker and a 1st for Stastny (at most).

Not getting that package though.

Stastny is not tough, has played a full season twice in six seasons, is really not that great defensively and is making 6.6 to put up 50-60 points.

I know that he's getting less time as guys like O'Rielly and Duchene step in, but I don't see how two less minutes a game accounts for a 20+ point drop in production; he's a powerplay specialist (more than 1/3 of his career points have been PP).

I'd definitely welcome him on the Leafs, but for Kadri (a guy who looks primed to make the jump to be a producer of anywhere between 40-75 points) and a 1st? Phaneuf? Colorado has EJ, why do they need Phaneuf?

Pass.

Why do we need Phaneuf? Why did Nashville need Suter when they had Weber? Colorado needs a number 2 defenseman, we don't need Bozak Kadri and other futures. No more, Bozak and Kadri are really souring on everyone.

I had gotten my hopes up too that we had seen the last of these threads for awhile. The Value of Stastny thread had just gone off the 1st page and then this showed up, talk about a rude awakening.

So what wingers have do you have that have put up better numbers than Mac in the two years ??? How he ends up on your third line is a mystery to me? He might just "squeak" onto your top line.

Do I really need to reiterate that 1. A Leafs fans proposed this 2. Avs don't want to trade Stastny at all...?

I honestly think Stastny to Toronto threads should be condemned. It's been hashed and re-hashed so many times.

Stastny isn't soft player. He goes down-low along the boards and to the front of the net, it's actually where he plays his best. He doesn't shy away from the physical areas.

Stastny has averaged 70+ games a season through-out his career. Most of his missed games came from a broken arm one season and appendicitis the other season. Not exactly common conditions, more likely fluke injuries. However, I do agree it's likely he would miss a handful a games a season. To put this is perspective, only two Leafs and one Av played a full season last year.

I'd have to disagree with you on Stastny's defensive game. I would describe him as a good two-way player. He's a very smart player, he reads the play well.

Stastny has struggled offensively the last two seasons and I can see why that is concerning from someone looking in from the outside. I believe that his offensive slump is largely due to the quality of his linemates.

During the last two seasons Stastny's best linemates were Stewart(for a short period of time) followed by Jones and an ageing Hejduk. Stewart was traded and Jones and Hejduk(at this point in his career) are better used as depth players. During the last two seasons Stastny spent a large portion of time playing with a revolving door on his wing, with the likes of Galiardi, Yip, Kobasew, and Winnik filling the spots. These guys are decent NHLer's but should not be put on scoring lines.

This upcoming year should be different(if the lockout is resolved in time). The Avs finally have the depth on their wings to play with their three good centres. With Landeskog, Downie, McGinn, Jones, Hejduk and Parenteau in the fold there should be no more scrubs playing with Stastny, but also no more excuses for Stastny not getting his production back around the 70 point range.

Avs fans are asking for Phaneuf becuase they want to surround Johnson with experienced talent. Johnson isn't ready to do it all by himself, and the rest of the Avs defensive core is mostly bottom pairing guys. The Avs have some very nice prospects on defence, but none ready to make an impact this season.

Nah, Avs would never trade one of our centers for Lupul. Stastny for Kessel or Gardiner could work though.
