Are You Satisfied With AV as Head Coach?

Usually we would be just entering preseason and getting our first glimpse at AV. Are you happy with AV coming back? After last year's debacle do you still believe he can lead us to the promised land. Do you trust him teaching our young guns. Do players regress?

I'm not satisfied with anything until we win the cup...AV included.

not really, but there isn't a lot better out there.

yes he can lead us to the promised land. He would have done it in 10-11 if the team was healthy in the SCFs. (mind you he was a goal away from a 1st round exit too)

prospects and stuff are fine

This isn't a very constructive mindset. It makes no sense to evaluate personnel this way from either a pre-Cup or post-Cup standpoint. Maybe put some more thought into the question.

I'm happy with AV because to be quite honest I don't think there is anyone else available who is better than him. That and the fact that he has the player's ears means it wouldn't be productive to replace him at this point.

If I wanted to put more thought into the post I would have.

Stale coaching was a contributing factor to the latter part of last season and into the playoffs. There was a lot going on, of course, but it wasn't overcome with coaching.

LA replaced Murray with Sutter and won the cup. What would have happened if Vancouver had hired Carlyle?

2 President's Trophies (the only ones in Canuck history IIRC)
Game 7 of Stanley Cup with an injured team

I'm happy.

AV needs to be on a short leash. Yes, his team made the finals in 2011, but they also let their foot off the pedal and let a 3-0 series lead slip away against Chicago, and more importantly 2-0 and 3-2 leads against Boston. I put the blame for the first 3 games against LA on him. He failed to prepare the offense down the stretch for a Daniel-less top line. That was a series that they should have won. Also, I wasn't too pleased about his comments re: Kesler and Luongo's future after he re-signed.

There isn't anyone better to hire at the moment.

At least his team was scoring goals, to heck with any defense. We'll just rely on Schnieder to bail us out.

Players develop under AV. I'm happy with that. I like his systems as well.

I'm not happy with AV. Some people already touched on a couple things I'm not happy with. Another thing is how he's not in the refs ear enough. If a ridiculous call goes against us (like Keith only getting a 2 minute minor for headshotting Daniel), he just stands there and looks at the sky chewing his gum. Rip an officials ear off for godsakes! Take a lesson from a guy like Coach Q. Stop being so passive. There's a reason so much crap goes against us. Cause he sits back and takes it.

Chicago and Pittsburgh also made changes before winning.

hockey has a culture of replacing coaches because the wind changed direction. note that when a coach is replaced, it's usually one of two things

A: a terrible team where the gm needs to pretend like he has mid-season control over the result without trading 'his guys'
B: a good team that's unlucky/playing badly, in which confirmation bias will quickly make it seem like the coach had anything to do with it

name the last team that was year in, year out a good team (but not quite able to make it) winning when they make a coach change - maybe new jersey?

now look at philly and san jose and other consistent competitors and their coach changes. did it win them a cup? (no)

AV should have been fired after not having the team ready to play the first few games of the playoffs this year. That's absolutely inexcusable.

I saw AV as more of a passenger on our 2011 cup run...that speaks volumes of how good our team was that season and the core leadership. Once we got to a more disciplined and system-savvy team in Boston, we had no answer.

I agree that AV has a knack for getting water from a stone, but I feel he doesnt have that next gear to take a team past an obstacle that requires more than "hard work" and "safe plays"

His poor read in the LA series is proof of that. The team was just completely unprepared for a playoff round and it was shocking. I don't care if you expected D. Sedin back, the fact is he wasn't cleared and had not played a game since the hit, so you should have assumed he was out for the series.
