Leafs finished 29th overall in goals against last season, and near the bottom in all Allaire seasons in Toronto. A lightning rod for valid criticism. Goaltending is critical to NHL success, so this is a position that requires results.
How will we even know he is gone, unless the new guy shows better on ice results and gets praised for the work?.
I admire Allaire for falling on his own sword and accepting accountability for his body of work.

No, Toronto's idiot demograph let the Leafs down. No other city ever thought to put any blame on the goalie coach before. As if Allaire was the reason the guys on the ice couldn't get the job done. I bet a lot of people don't even know what a goalie coach does.

Is that why 1/3 of NHL teams don't even employ a goalie coach?

Good point.
Interesting that apparently he didn't want the pressure of criticism with 2 young goaltenders for a season... either he dislikes the spotlight entirely, or he has zero confidence in our goalies and is just saving himself a season of hard criticism.

But what would people say if Reimer and Scrivens do better without him?

Who would know best, that playing with 2 young goalies with less than 100 NHL games experienced combined is a potential formula for disaster better than the goalie coach?.
The writing is on the wall, and with no veteran goalie reinforcements coming in as was promised, this is now a situation which opens the goalie coach to more criticism as its setting him up for failure rather than success.
Allaire might have been the one pushing hardest internally for help and when he didn't get it, has decide to pull the pin himself.

Guess Allaire does not believe in "play the kids".
Well there goes our monopoly on signing free agent goaltending prospects.
So who exactly are we missing out on? We've had the monopoly supposedly for a few years and we've used it to sign a bunch of guys we can't wait to replace. It might have been a monopoly, but it was totally Baltic Avenue.

I think also in the last 3-5 years there's been an emergence of some really quality goaltending coaches to compete with the likes of Allaire. It hasn't been a one-horse race for years IMO...
Too bad it didn't work. He seems to be a very good coach for certain types of players. Gus probably needed more of a general mentor for his first season in the NHL, someone who had been through the same process of coming from a European ice surface to North America and excelled. He may have made Reimers glove hand weaker with that Glove as Blocker theory. I seem to remember him having a good glove in his first years as a pro.
Regardless, probably time for a change. At this point even a few wise words from a veteran would suffice.

Reason: Auto correct can be funny.
Thank god. Was tired of watching our goalies play the percentages and get beaten over the glove hand every time. Hopefully we some improvement in Reimer this year!
