Would you consider a 5th overpayment? Cuz I would

A 5th best player in the world would be an underpayment.

In all honesty, Horcoff won't be moved. He's a good 3rd liner who can play in both ends of the rink and on both special teams units and should improve statistically as his minutes go down. He's in no way worth his contract, but to trade him we're only going to get a worse player on a similar contract

lolz horcoff is the oilers #1 center. most ice time, zonestarts, and qualcomp, #1 face-off guy and special teams, also team captain and led the team to the scf in 06, worked his way up from the 4th line. all hail horcoff! quite frankly without horcoff we would have no hall rnh or yak, so bow down

LOL that's going to be his agents' pitch when his next contract comes up in a few years.

The Oilers could buy out Horcoff next summer and his cap hit would be...

2013-14: $2,666,667
2014-15: $3,666,667
2015-16: $1,166,667
2016-17: $1,166,667

Or they could buy him out after the 2013-14 season and the cap hit would be..

2014-15: $3,500,000
2015-16: $1,000,000

I think this is something that eventually happens.

As for Horcoff as a 3rd liner, he is definitely a good 3rd liner at this point in his career. He just needs to be used as one. He averaged more ice time than any Oiler forward last season. Almost 20 minutes a night. He ran out of gas. Get him playing 15ish minutes a night in a shut down role and maybe get another faceoff man so he doesn't have to take EVERY defensive zone draw and he'll be just fine. The contract is really one of the only reasons not to like Horcoff. It's not like he's actually a bad player. He just makes about double what he's worth.

Disagree. It's not the contract that I dislike him. I could care less if were to make 600K, I just want him gone for good. I'm sure there are thousands that would agree with me here.

Yeah, and the minute he's gone this knee jerk emotional reaction will turn to one of regret once you realize what he brought to this team.

Nope, it's consensus among HFOil posters that we like him as a 3rd liner and there wouldn't be too many complaints about him if it weren't for the contract and the situations hes played in that he shouldn't be played in.

His contract is so bad that you have to take a contract that is just as bad back, it will not happen, maybe the last year of his deal when he is being paid 3mil and a cap hit of 5.5.

I like him. People could rag on him all the time. He's a faceoff winner and good defensively. And, has the best percentage in S/O. If he wasn't a 7 million/ 5.5 cap hit. Everyone would love him.

edmonton has a loser menatality in the leadership/vet experience on the team... a house cleaning should be done if possible

flip horcorff for another bad contract... get it done. He is a decent player and will benefit from a change of scenery... maybe the incoming contract will benefit too?

Ah the world of if's...

If Scott Gomez wasn't an absolute albatross of a contract, he would make for a nice savvy veteran 3rd line center on a competitive team, but alas, his contract does suck and he does have no value.

Comparing Horcoff to Gomez is a bit of a stretch IMO. At least Horcoff can get over 20 points.

Don't know why they haven't moved this thread. Horcoff's not going to be traded, and this looks suspiciously like a trolling post to slag a player (or fanbase.)

Horcoff will play for Edmonton until the final year of his contract, at which point and time, he will either be bought out (if they need cap space) or retained. If the lockout continues for the entire season, Edmonton will have contracts like Yakupovs slide, and they'd likely keep him.

According to behindthenet.ca, he plays against the hardest competition, with the worst zone start in Edmonton, and plays 19+ minutes a night.

Which one of Lander/Gagner/Belanger could take his minutes?
