Glad this guy's not in North America. Behavior always rubbed me wrong (throwing before the other guy even knew there was a problem, starting fights with punches to the back of the head and boards, beating unwilling combatants past unconsciousness...his minor league fight card is really pretty heinous).
****ing pathetic. How can you beat a 22 year old kid that doesn't wanna fight/never fights who is 3 inches and 30+ pounds smaller than you?
This is Trevor Gillies we're talking about, he's total scum. He's also playing on a team that barely tries to win hockey games, and mostly just tries to injure the opposition for the amusement of their fans. You'll notice he baits the opposing player into a fight by body checking the goalie from behind.
Pretty pathetic antics by Gillies. Disgrace to all real enfor ers out there. Guys go to the KHL, and they become complete disgraces to tough guys. Yablonski, Brennan, Mirasty, Tarnasky, Gratton, and now Gillies. The list goes on and on. Just a joke. These guys go to Russia because they're not cut out to play hockey at all, so they beat up on Russians for the hell of it. Keep being a tough guy Trevor, we'll always remember your ass getting KO'd by Derek Boogaard in 2005 and then tossed around like a ragdoll by Boogaard again in 2010. Never were the top dog heavyweight.

Actually Vityaz became better since Andrei Nazarov was fired. He's now with Severstal, so they pursue Crosby and Toews.
I wish one of these Russian teams would match them guy for guy. I'm sure some of these 'real' enforcers would love to rattle their already mushy brains.

Orr-Parros-Thornton
Scott-Engelland
Gillies can beat Thornton, Parros and Engelland easily. Him vs Orr and Scott would be entertaining.
By Boogaard in 04-05? That's the only one I remember.
Boogaard in 05/06. Boogaard in 10/11. Didn't do well against Mike Hoffman in 06/07. Leblond gave him a hard time on several occasions. Same goes for Matt Carkner.
Make no mistake, Gillies can throw 'em, but he's no "Heavyweight champ" like some make him out to be.

I have a different interpretation of "Always gets his ass handed to him by the best fighters in the league.", which to me means he is a punching bag like Stortini or Kostopolous who always get their ***** handed to them, not one in 04-05, one in 06-07 and here and there.
Even in that last fight vs Boogaard, I don't think he got his ass kicked. I think he was overmatched, the size difference between them in that fight looks ridiculous. And Carkner ended up a bloody mess when he fought Gillies. The Leblond fight in the NHL (only time I saw them fight) was pretty even to me..
And just to show my work:
I wouldn't classify that as getting your ass kicked.
