Does the lockout fix our D issues?

At least, for the year? Let's say we have a 40ish games season, Meszaros will probably be back and Kimmo won't be worn out at the end, so we would have a good #1. Plus, the rookie that will need to step up won't have a 82 games season, which can be harsh for him.

Timonen - Coburn
Grossmann - Schenn
Meszaros - Gus/MAB/Gervais

I think that D would actually be good, definitely above average.

Hopefully the lockout doesn't last the whole season. Timonen is getting up there.

Maybe, maybe not. Timonen gets a year older and closer to retirement. The others get time to heal, but there are still holes IMO. If it's for half a year though, the defense doesn't look nearly as bad with the guys who'd come back and not be injured though.

And who knows how Schenn performs. He could suck like he did his last year in Toronto or get better. He's a question mark to me and I'm not really that comfortable with penciling him in the top 4.

Still missing someone to attempt to replace Pronger.

This is the only positive spin I can put on this lock out. I was like "well helps put d get healthy"

Would you guys be content with a lock-out shortened Stanley Cup Victory?

I don't think it would feel the same to me

It depends on how many games are played. If it's a 66-game season, like the NBA has this past year, I'd be fine. I think the NHL season should only be 70-72 games as it stands. If it's something like 48, as it was in 1994-95, that would seem pretty cheap to me.

I believe no matter when the season will start, the number of games per week will definitely be higher than in a normal season. That's probably a bigger problem for Kimo than the normal pace with more games.
Only real positive is that Meszaros will miss less games.

Seriously? If we won the Cup I wouldn't care if it was a ten game regular season.

Missing the whole season doesn't help anyone. The older guys are that much closer to being done if that's the case

Only losing a portion is good though. It would be less of a grind on everyone (this is especially good for Timonen) and we wouldn't be without Meszaros for such a large portion of the season

I'd rather have a full season anyway

Hate even throwing this out there but we all know it, it's not outside the realm of possibility that this mess will rob us of ever seeing Kimmo play another game. This is the last year of his contract and I'm pretty sure he'll be 38 next year.

Concur with above.

Shortened season helps a little.

Full season just pushed our lack of a true number 1 and makes Kimmo a year older. We would make a huge offer for Edler, but outside of that... there isn't any relief in free agency (maybe RFA depending on CBA).

A full season lost creates more questions than answers.

Believe me, if it happened, it'd feel the same.

When the Phillies WS-winning game was delayed, that night my non-Philadelphia friends asked me if they won, they didn't think it'd be as cool b/c they would've won with a shortened game.

But you know what? It still was amazing. At the end of the day, a championship is a championship. No one remembers that game was shortened, no one will remember that Bron Bron won with a shortened season, no one remembers the Devils '95 cup win was shortened, and no one will remember that this season was shortened (if there is one).

I'm thinking we'll get a 60 game season, so the extra resting time definitely doesn't hurt.

I agree. I actually hoped for a lockout shortened season so that it would help our defense. I am confident there will be a season. I just don't think it will start until December or early January.

I'd take the Cup if we won it by lottery or if we stole it from LA. I'm desperate.

Would it be better to lose a short season Cup Final or playoffs?

A shortened season cup is 99.99999999999999999% as good as a regular season's Cup and 1000000000000000000000% better than what ever experienced over the last several decades.

That's precisely my fear. I'm already disgusted with the owners on this lockout, but if this lockout means we never see Kimmo play another game in orange and black, I'm going to be very angry.

Season long lockout means the kids play a full season under Murray in ADK with SOME NHL talent. Hopefully Kimmo takes it easy in Europe and can go another season or two. Mez gets and stays healthy. Schenn loses weight and progresses. And maybe Pronger improves?

Aside from that last one, those other situations will benefit us greatly.

I'll throw Bettman's trash can through his front door every morning for a year if this happens.

Yes, it will help.

I bet the D won't give up a single goal during the lockout.

Maybe after one or two or ninety three times he'll get the point that we want hockey.

As much as I'm a glass half full guy, the glass half empty side is that the players play elsewhere and still run a risk of injury, possibly returning from the lockout injured if it ends mid season.

Although I think the likelihood of injury in some other leagues is significantly less than the NHL.
