The organization tries VERY hard to keep STH numbers hidden. They have said their goal is 15,000....but they've never come close to that number. Like I said, the numbers I hear tossed around almost every year are in the 6-8k range.

I think if you added all of the 12 + 24 game plans, and the $9.99 section up on the 3rd level, you could probably stretch it out to 10,000 or more. But that's not a 100% accurate way to count STHs either. I've heard from several sources, mostly STHs, that the actual number has NEVER been more than 6-8k. The Canes surely aren't going to go around advertising this. They want people to think every game is nearly sold out! And that's only happened a handful of times in the last few years.

Why wouldn't the 9.99 seats count as STHs if they have them for a full year?
Which makes more sense: PK stating that they have the most STH ever and then actually going and spending money this offseason, or a number that's not too much more than the massively struggling Islanders while still spending that money?
We'll probably never know the actual number, but I have quite a bit of trouble believing 6k is even close.
EDIT: This thread has a few more numbers. 7,700 for Columbus and 10k+ for Tampa. 6,000 would be incredibly sad.
Given the addition of another Staal (seriously, don't underestimate the fanboy factor), adding Semin, and the expansion of the fan zone the STH base is probably a good bit over 6000 now, and this is coming from an STH. I'd say it's been over 6000 for a while, probably peaked the year after the Cup followed by another spike after the Conference Finals.
And I know the fan zone tickets are hard to come by for season tickets. Regardless of if they've been bought by a broker, or by real fans, they're still season tickets sold.
The big question is if and how they count partials. Clearly a partial isn't an actual season ticket sold, but what's the huge difference between selling 2500 half season tickets or 1250 fulls on what wasn't plucked by STHs?
I couldn't estimate the actual number for the life of me though, I'll say that much. Somewhere between 9 and 10 (if the "highest STH sales ever" claim by JR is in fact true) is probably where we were at before this lockout but I wouldn't bank on that being accurate.
OK, lets say there are 10,000 season tickets sold. Do you still worry about losing your seat? Honestly? There are almost always "plenty of good seats available". The ONLY seats I'd hesitate to give up are the 332-334 row A seats, the folding chairs reserved for handicapped patrons. Those are VERY hard to get...harder than 100 level Row A on the glass....but MUCH cheaper.
Until the Canes can regularly sell 15,000+ season tickets per year, there will hardly ever be a shortage of tickets.
My seats in 314 are row B, I definitely would not want to chance it with those. It's basically impossible to get seats like that anymore as long as things like the fan zone are taking new STHs and brokers are going buy crazy in the process. Turn those in and odds are I'd be in 309 or 308 row R or something like that when I come back.
As someone who relies on single game tickets, I wouldn't say there are "almost always plenty of good seats available". Some of the marquee games or games against big-drawing teams can be pretty hard to come by. I usually have to plan my Penguins games in advance.
Regardless, some people are attached to their seat for other reasons. Maybe they like the company around them. I'm sure there are plenty of horror stories out there about people who get so fed up with their neighbors they switch seats the next year.

- Three 12-gamers = 1 full
Then the team sold a minimum of 8,000 full packages to get the ASG. If the team just set a new all-time high, the maths say it must be more than 8,000.

I think Jared Staal is the forgotten man on these boards. I don't see him in anyone's projected lineup, and no one actually cares that he's part of the organization.
I think Bowman could be a serviceable 3rd line winger if he's willing to develop his defensive game at the expense of his chances of ever being a top-6er (which isn't going to happen anyway).
