Final thought - the TRUE BROADCAST camera is absolutely fantastic. Had hours and hours of gameplay on the camera, and for whatever reason, it really freshened up the game for me.
It's so much fun to use, and it's rather easy to get used to so long as you make the adjustments necessary with your controller - either make the change so that your controls are camera relative, or if you are like me and you've become super used to the NHL controls over the past 4 years, just keep them the same.
I recommend everyone try and give it a real shot - it looks superb.
My only gripe with it is that a lot of times, it's zoomed in a little bit too much, but that's something that you begin to deal with pretty quickly once you understand your teammates' tendencies, etc
If I go and "play" with the HUT side of it in the APP, does it "count" towards the daily reward thinghy/gimmick if I don't play the game it self - or do I have to have been "inside" HUT mode on the game itself ?
And the poke stops a high percentage of passes. I play defense and trying to make a breakout pass under pressure is a *****. It would be one thing if the puck changed directions when hit, but it just stops dead in its tracks.
I suggest when playing defence you be patient with the puck and don't do the obvious play where you pass it off the closest guy avaliable. Your opponent is going to expect that.

It's almost always a guaranteed goal if you win an offensive zone faceoff, pass back to the point, have your defenseman skate to middle and slapper/wrister. Goal everytime. Works against you too. I always seem to get scored on that way.
Plus the opposing teams PP almost always scores. Not really complaining about it though.
Okay guys i got some problems here, XBOX 360. i entered my Pre order code from ebgames so i can get those packs and all i got was 1 free pack and it was *NOT* gold pack and im supposed to get like 6 packs... WTF!!!!!!
Getting breakaway after breakaway because the D can't turn or react fast enough is not realism
Adjust your sliders - your player acceleration is either too high, nor it doesn't match up with the CPU team's acceleration.
Playing on superstar, leaving theirs as default, and bumping yours up by one means you will only get breakaways if you poke the puck away and give yourself a chance, or if you catch the Dmen out on a long shift and struggling for legs.
I'd say that it plays really realistically in that regard. If you find that it lacks realism, it's probably 9 times out of 10 down to something in your settings/sliders.

How many years into your GM are you?
In pretty much all of my GMs that I've done so far, while minimal, there is noticeable improvements after the first year. However, it definitely becomes more noticeable and the increases more substantial as you move forward in years - presumably because you've spent more points on your assistant coach.

Just playing now... pretty frustrated by the fact that even with playing around with the hitting power slider anytime I line up an opposing player nothing. they seem to just brush it off, moreso my player laying the hit seems to take the worse of it.
And the computer seems to be able to pick the puck off me so damn easy.
cpu point shots ALWAYS go in. even if there is no screen, or if my player goes for the block.
Also again with the hitting -- I haven't honestly had a hit in this game. I can line up their player with a 6-4 220 lb player against a 5-10 190 and the 6'4 guy falls down. wtf.

Don't draft based on projection, but based on a combination of potential & league interest, as well as projection.
I'm 4 years into my Be a GM mode with the Leafs, and can almost always find valuable picks heading into the 3rd round -all of which are either 20 or younger (I never draft older than that, unless the guy is a stud - never the case).
It's the 2013 draft, the first one in the game. You have Mackinnon, Monahan etc. then after that there are very few 18/19 year olds even in the later rounds

You need to work on angling the players, I have no problem with hitting. In fact, every time I throw a hit the other teams player goes flying (on any difficulty)

I just noticed, I preordered from EB Games too, but I never saw a code for free packs. Where can I find it? I had like 6 free packs when I first started playing but they were all from the demo.

Came with a little sheet of paper that had your preorder code on it....which, at least on ps3, still aren't working.
It's strange, but Hiller is absolutely horrible in this game. Whenever I play offline or versus, he vacuums pucks like he's collecting them. In GM Connected, he's GAA is 3.9 after 4 games with a s% of .745.
On the other hand, whenever I play with the Wild or practically any other team, I can usually limit the opposition to 0 - 2 goals. DiPietro was the same for me in NHL 11, would play the #2G whenever I ended up with the Isles.
25 goals before the end of December. No injuries. Finishes the season with 29 goals.
For me he had 20-24-44
And it's not like I was a bad team either, our record was 43-30-9
Though to be fair, scoring seems a lot lower in this game when simming, I did one season when nobody topped 100 points, and Malkin was the only one to reach 90. Plus all the goalies have godly save%
