(Want hockey back!)

There really isn't many other plausible options though.

Elias? He probably doesn't want it.
Salvador? Maybe, he is a apparently a big leader.
Zajac? Hasn't been an "A" and this will be almost a slap in the face to Kovalchuk.
They could go out of the box to someone like Greene, Zubrus, etc but yet again, it would be almost a slap in the face to Kovalchuk.

Kovalchuk really is the only option, inferring that Elias doesn't want it.

Salvador would be the only other realistic option, since most of the other borderline guys are FA's after this year and they can't have another Parise-type fiasco.

At this point, I can't see how Kovalchuk will not be wearing the C next season. I had my reservations going into this past season, but I'm all aboard now.

Yeah definitely. I can't see them giving it to anybody else pretty much. Zajac is a UFA, and no way they get burned twice, and Patty will stay after this year, but he don't want it. He didn't want it last time. Kovy gets the C, Patty keeps his A, and Kovy's A goes to either Zajac, or Salvador is probably what will happen.

If not for Brent Sutter Patty would probably still be captain, and we wouldn't have lost our captain last year! Especially since the Langenbrunner captaincy went over real nice and were the best years of our lives!

Henrique will get Kovy's A. If not now, when Sal leaves. Book it.

I won't bet against that. When Patty retires probably. Or when Sal leaves/retires. Whatever happens first.

I doubt they make one yet unless you go the customized route. Not sure where to find that though.

My first reaction too. Although, if it was really a Rangers jersey, they'd put the Kremlin on it or something.

I think Zajac gets that 2nd A, but I dig this too.

There hasn't been a peep out of Elias since puckgate.
I assume he'll spend the off time just staying in shape and getting some skating in... but has anyone heard anything?

He's probably over in the Czech still. Lou said in July after he had gotten his surgery on his groin he would be going over there for the Summer. I think he also said as of a couple weeks ago he was healed, and skating. He doesn't have any school aged children I don't think so he can stay back home as long as he wants. It seems it's mostly the guys with kids in school who are skating back in Jersey now. And the younger guys who are getting ready to play in the AHL.

Count me in the "Give Henrique the C" bandwagon. I don't think Kovy is undeserving though.

I wish the whole Parise/Langebrunner captaincy had never happened. It'd be so much nicer looking back to see it go from Stevens to Niedermayer to Elias.

That's crazy...1 good season and he suddenly deserves to be the captain of a team? No thanks.

It's about an attitude, a confidence, an air of leadership that no player on this team has possessed since Stevens left. Henrique is the first guy to have "it" since Scotty retired. It's not about stats. He could be a 4th liner in that regard. It doesn't matter. His attitude is contagious. His confidence is contagious. His calmness is contagious.

I agree it's still difficult to give a sophomore the C. The problem is that it's quite obvious, if he sticks around, that he is future captain material. However, if you give Kovy the C, he's is your captain for the remainder of the contract. You can't strip it away if it doesn't work. You can't even hint at the fact that you want him to give it up. He has to do it willingly, with no persuasion. Of course if it all goes good there are no worries. I just personally don't think Kovy is really captain material. I didn't think Zach was either. I don't think anyone else besides Henrique has the look of a captain. Ideally it would be given to Sal for a year or two until Henrique either proves to everyone how deserving he is, decides he doesn't want it, or leaves; the latter two cases making Kovy pretty much the only choice.

Attitude, if he didn't pot 3 game winners in the playoffs no one is having this debate. Save the rhetoric.

How do we know about his leadership either? I'm curious, must have been that AHL mojo with 1 year of NHL duty. He might be a captain someday, but this season is lunacy.

Henrique will probably get his shot as an Alternative captain a few years once Salvador & Elias retire. Till then I really think there's 3-4 other players that deserve it before he does.

I'm not saying that I want Kovy to be captain because I've said a few times that that wouldn't be my first choice. However, if Henrique didn't have the monster season he had, would he even be in this discussion right now?

Totally agree with this post.

This I could see, but not right now. There's too many other leaders right now for him to get an A.

The captain will be whomever Scott Stevens tells Pete Deboer should be captain
