Maybe not to all, but to some of us. I definitely thought so literally the first game I saw him play (which was in Windsor). You could just tell he was going to be a leader. I have a feeling Getzo probably noticed this early too.

As long as he doesn't get hepatitis again, I don't mind what he does during the lockout.

It is a little too soon, but I do think that Henrique has the right mentality and play style for a Devils captain.

Kovy deserves it though, with Parise gone and the next generation of players not having stepped up yet, it's clearly his team.

Even if he tells DeBoer that he should be the captain again. We'll be the only team in the league where the captain is an assistant coach.

I'm told New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov is finalizing a deal with CSKA, and will join Datsyuk & Bryzgalov.

Radulov and Zharkov are already there. Oh man, can`t wait to see them live.

Volchenkov is going to save more shots than Bryzgalov.

He's a kid. NO WAY all the veterans in that room take their lead from him. We have the oldest team in the NHL, we do not lack for leadership.

Just curious, does anyone know where we rank in this category without Marty and Moose? I know they skew our average.

We're probably a lot lower now.

Especially with Sykora, Poni, and Boulton gone and being replaced by Butler/Tedenby/JJ.

That was my thoughts also and I wouldn't mind getting one with Kovy's name and number on the back and the 'C' on the front.

I read this post, and first thing that came to mind was ''How is our depth lower because we lost Boulton?'' considering he was probably worse for us than Peters, Asham, and Pikkawhoever

Then I realized you were talking about age. The age thing is overblown. A lot of people say ''We need to get younger'' but if we had at least one goaltender who was closer to 30 than 40 I'd say our average age would decrease dramatically. The numbers are skewed by 80 year old goalie tandem for sure. On top of that last year at the start of the season people said we were too young with Larsson, Josefson, Palmieri, and Tedenby playing the roles they were playing.

I agree. Even last year, there were a lot of guys we added that weren't core players that were older, namely Poni, Boulton, Zidlicky, and Sykora. All are 31 or older so they skew the average.

Our core on offense is young. Kovalchuk, Zajac, JJ, Henrique, Clarkson, Tedenby/Butler are all younger than 30.

On defense, our d is a little older but defense is usually benefited by being older. It's best to have a D of guys from 27-33 rather than 20-25.

In goal, obviously two 40 year old goalies make the average age number look a lot worse than it is.

But we have Krys Barch to take his role.

Lou just can never have a team without two enforcers can he?

Been a while since I did a rant on how much I ****in hate the goons. Pete would not go back to those guys at all during the playoffs. I trust he won't play one every single game unless there's injuries. If Jam Canssen is on the NHL roster, and either one of Tedenby or Butler is in the minors I swear I'll riot. Janssen ****in sucks horribly, and wouldn't even be in the NHL if there weren't 30 teams. Barch however appears to be pretty decent, but so did Boulton beforehand. All I know is it's been a while since we had a goon that contributed to anything positive. Asham, P3L, Peters, Boulton, and Janssen have all been abominations. At least Asham scored some goals. I'll also riot if CBGB members are demoted to play with goons nightly, and the line is broken up.

Hopefully Pete takes the Lemaire route. Lemaire very rarely played P3L, and Peters in the same game, and many times both were a healthy scratch even when the lineup was not healthy. Zharkov, and a few others were call ups when there were depth problems.

DeBoer does like to have that sort of grit available, during the regular season at least. Worked out ok for us last year, so I'm not complaining.

It's a lockout, Lou can't make him do anything right now. Barch can tweet to his heart's content.
